Hated the idea of them back when I had a job, but they do give people a boost and let them blow off a bit of steam which these days can be much needed!

Oh and regards to your last point

ultimately the management need to strive to creating a positive can-do environment within there normal working circumstances through strong communication whilst keeping staff/team motivated to delivering the best they can in I admit in difficult circumstances!! The focus needs to be consistently driven by management to compact concerns regarding morale and insecurity especially in today's economic climate, it should never come in the form of a social gathering (which does have positive impact but a positive attitude thoroughout working year is a necessity)

I love Christmas parties. Never miss them. An excuse to dress up and dance the night away. Ours is next week. Have taxi booked already.

Would love it even more if it was paid for by management like in some jobs.

I agree there is perception out there and def driven by the media! I tend to avoid papers/news now as there is little or nothing positive coming through and no recognition as the work/ effort everyone has contributed thus far

you know my buddie works for an organisation where they contribute a minimal amount monthly to a social fund, they have fantastic all expenses parties/events paid for obviously doesn't work in every work situation but its great for them and they have some fun!

thankfully I also work for an organisation that will contribute its not fantastic but it makes a small difference

decentskin2010: i understand definately if the pressure is on you for everything and people being people will always complain!

and yes i know what you mean managment should make staff not be worrying and positive and happy, in my company though some of the management are rubbish!
so your ending up relying on work nites out and christmas party to keep people going

well shame on them I say!!

I do understand though and we all deserve a work event/nights out away from work, its a good boost and gets people interacting on a social level more so then work related stuff we can all get bogged down that said I love my Xmas party as well someone else namely my boss does the organising!! grin

oh crikey even a wee small gathering, you know you could buy some cheap sparkling wine in tesco and maybe if allowed get to have a wee drinking with a tin of roses bring somewhat cheerful celebration mood into work you could pick up cheap fake champagne glasses in €2 shop to add a little spark also if not allowed alcohol there could be non-alcoholic stuff out there (although I said I dislike the fact that I have to organize event, my team are really excited about there night out and look forward to it)

and of course social gatherings are clashing that is so typical anyway you can try convince people to try go to cs point/meet venue try mix the two grin ya just never know
