lucynad: this thread is FOR OVER 46 YRS ONLY... (hello carlosweb )

what makes people happy?

the answer the scientists give to this question is composed of four factors:

1) gender (yeah...us wimin are generally happier )
2) personality (being prone to negative feelings like guit, anger and anxiety makes persons unhappy)
3) external circumstances (relationships, education, income and health)
4) age....here we go, finally getting older brings some assets...you loose mental sharpness and looks but...gain in what we are all persuing: happiness

no pain, no gain

it seems that older people are happier, no matter what...

they have fewer rows and come up with better solutions to life's problems...they are better at controlling their emotions, accepting misfortune...they live according to the saying "you can't please all the people all the time"...

sounds encouraging...

oh, well...this study was prepared by scientists, that are mostly men, which means that they will have their funny convinctions and will be extremelly serious about them (my dad is convinced that margarine is better than butter and no way you can explain to him that he is wrong )

this post was inpired by the article published on the Economist..if anyone is interested to learn more here is the link:

the number 46 refers to the statement made in the article according to which you start to be happy after your 46 birthday...

Interesting study.

I think,There are some miserable personalities out there for whom no amount of wisdom will ever help.

But in general (and on an average) - yes.
I agree with this study results.
