this thread is FOR OVER 46 YRS ONLY... (hello carlosweb )
what makes people happy?
the answer the scientists give to this question is composed of four factors:
1) gender (yeah...us wimin are generally happier ) 2) personality (being prone to negative feelings like guit, anger and anxiety makes persons unhappy) 3) external circumstances (relationships, education, income and health) 4) age....here we go, finally getting older brings some assets...you loose mental sharpness and looks but...gain in what we are all persuing: happiness
no pain, no gain
it seems that older people are happier, no matter what...
they have fewer rows and come up with better solutions to life's problems...they are better at controlling their emotions, accepting misfortune...they live according to the saying "you can't please all the people all the time"...
sounds encouraging...
oh, well...this study was prepared by scientists, that are mostly men, which means that they will have their funny convinctions and will be extremelly serious about them (my dad is convinced that margarine is better than butter and no way you can explain to him that he is wrong )

hi lucynad, to be honest i dont normally take any notice of these surveys by scientists i think life is what you make it. i always try not to let anything get me down as being miserable is not going to change anything you just have to make the best of a bad situation. life is to short to be miserable.

the number 46 refers to the statement made in the article according to which you start to be happy after your 46 birthday...
Hmmm, interesting lucynad... It's hard to generalise, because some people are unhappy no matter what age they are, but I definitely think as we get older (for me it was my 40s), you are better able to come to terms with who you are, where you are in your life and what you still want to achieve!!!
then you are perfectly in line with their study...
slowly but surely...thanks for your answer
Hey, lucy...hope your having a great day! I really don't follow the age thing....it's a state of mind. keeping a positive attitude and turning the negative around is what got me to where I am...oh, that and a lot of hard work...

hello faded_dino
yes...soon i'll have to leave...i work out of my office this afternoon (for me)
i agree...
and, personally, disliking the numbers, therefore age it doesn't mean anything particular to me...
and i am with you on the inner capacity to gain happiness, satisfaction or however we want to call this positive state..

Plus 25 ontop of your figure Lucy and I have to say that I am the happiest I have been in years. I moved back to the U.K. after 7 years in Spain and even the atrocious weather conditions cannot dampen my spirits.
Life IS very much what you make it, and if you don't put anything in,you won't get much out.So a science report makes no difference to how I feel.
