HotrodLarrys: I sure wasnt criticising the thread, tho the wording maybe could have been done differently, It is still a positive thing...
and yes, as for Your Step Dad, well, I have been thru this too, and yes, I do also want to quit again, when I prepare my mind to it again...
we all know, we dont just quit, it takes preparation of the mind

I didn't think you were rude...only pointed out that I read it wrong...

STOP IT...DON'T STRESS ME OUT...Ive not had a cigarette. uh oh As for wanting to quit...nope..I want to smoke...it's enjoyable...and obviously addictive.
However, I sat down and thought of the reasons why I should stop, VS shouldn't...and it was an eye opener...so I figured I'm a pretty bright woman not to do the right thing...and gonna tell myself that over and over...

Good Morning from Englandwave Well done you,way to go.

So glad you popped back in to share your thoughts. If it helps why not make a list of reasons for and against smoking and put it somewhere prominent so you can see it.

You are doing sooooooooo well.cheering

I have a neighbour who has the most frightening cough you could imagine. Her sister died of lung cancer a few years back. I stopped smoking 6 months back and have been coughing up the most horrible stuff that had accumulated in my lungs over the years - I no longer sound like my neighbour when I wake up and I have taken steps to make sure I dont die like her sister did, fighting for breath and choking on clogged up lungs - that must be terrifying and what a waste........ I wish you strength Miz thumbs up

When I gave up I was so convinced it would not last that I could not bring myself to throw away all of my cigarettes. I had cartons and open packets all over the place. Turned out I still had them a year later and that's when I finally got rid of them.

PS Every now and then I still dream about smoking grin Guess it takes a firm hold of you. doh

I found some nicotine free tobacco which you can buy in the health food shop and when the craving is terrible I have one of those

I did similar but put them all outside in the shed and there they stayed till a friend ran out a few months later - the fear of running out in the middle of the night took some getting used to laugh

thanks..but to me that would be giving in..it is not so much the niccotine for me but the habit of smoking while drinking coffee or after having eaten.. getting rid of the habit of holding a ciggy is just as important of inhaling smoke..my opinion

here you can get herbal ciggies in the pharmacy..am not gonna get them either..we are tougher than a coffin nail..

Different strokes for different folks, they have helped me stay stopped as they are none addictive and are pretty handy for those times when stress would have pushed me to have a real one.....

You are absolutely right! It is the habit of having something in your mouth ,rather like a baby's dummy as a comfort. So herbal cigarettes would not be an answer.

There are web sites available which give good advice for people who are struggling.

Good luck and keep in touch.hug

Hi trish, yes it's a known fact that the cough is worse after giving up. The good news is that it doesn't last forever.

Today would have been my ex husband's Birthday had he not died of lung and brain cancer 2 years this coming January.
