I started at age of 13 sigh , frm the very first time I had a cig , It was as if I was a professional smoker moping

For the time I was 15 , I could finish a pack.in A DAY!!

I'm turning 30 in a couple of days, and my lil one asked me to stop smoking because " It's not good for you mami!!" roll eyes

Figures at least I'm "improving"....from 20 a day...10....5....

Now a couple of cigs a day... IF I feel as such...(unless I'm having a drink, of course , in that case I cant resist to have a cig!!!)

How long will take me from 2 cigs.... to 0 ????

What a sensible child you have ,bless her.If that isn't an incentive I don't know what is.

However long it takes ,if you manage to be nicotine free eventually you will have won the battle. Good luck and a kiss for your smart kidlips

Hi again taxi.Just in case tulefel doesn't see this she has been smoke free for 13 months.cheering

Giving up smoking is one of the hardest things you will probably have to do,and yes I think you could compare it with feeling like a junkie,it's that strong an addiction.

Keep up the good work.

Good question Taxi.thumbs up

I guess everyone is different but it is usual to put on roughly 5 kilos at first.

When you smoke it increases your metabolism, when you stop it slows down.

Your appetite can increase, but if you stick to a sensible ,healthy diet and avoid the empty calories in junk food you should be ok.

Drink plenty of water as it is a good craving buster, and also helps to flush out residual toxins.

Exercise helps too.Walk instead of ride ,stairs instead of escalator, just common sense really.

Above all remember.

YOU CAN LOSE THE WEIGHT,BUT NOT YOUR LUNGS.hug

You're quite right but when I stopped smoking I realised it was more than just a case of not inhaling nocoteine. I have tried to change my diet and exercise (I was a chocolate scoffing couch potato) and the result was I lost weight after I stopped.

The secret is to find a form of exercise you enjoy so you won't see it as work. I bought a bicycle and enjoy that after several months of torture in gyms which cost me a small fortune. I try to swim an hour per week too!conversing

Tulefel: They say as long as you remember for how long you haven’t smoked, you haven’t quitted yet.

I haven’t smoked for 13 months. But I’m trying to quit.
I know what you are saying, but have a different take on it. I've been smokeless for one year, one month, and 17 days. (!!) Many doctors have said something to the effect of it taking , more or less, about a year of total abstinence before you "unhook", so to speak. In my case this is accurate. Of course smokers will, from time to time want a cigarette, or think they want a cigarette, but it is nothing like wanting one WHILE being a smoker. Does that make sense to you? In other words, the desire is like window shopping for an item you want, but not buying it. Some experts in smoking cessation believe that the desire, per se, never actually completely goes away. I am finding that life without smoking is great, food tastes better, I have more money, the "worry" about someday having to quit is of course now gone, etc... FYI--I personally do not believe that slowly 'tapering' down is a good idea. As long as you smoke even a little bit, it just gets harder and harder to commit to total abstinence. AND, I agree with at least some doctors - you won't want to go through it again! Now THAT I can attest to!~ Good Luck anyone trying or wanting to quit. Good News--even failed attempts at stopping are BIG steps in the right direction. Studies prove that even many, many failed attempts lead to quitting. Don't give up.teddybear
