Onlyguy: I've seen wild ducklings that were born a week or so before other families of ducklings attack the smaller and younger ones until they'd finally die. I'd visit this lake where these families lived and the first family had 16 ducklings of which 14 made it to fly while the other families lost 80% of their ducklings to attacks by the elder ducklings.

Nature is sometimes very cruel.

Ouch!!! Does sound cruel...

Do you remember if it was the male ducks doing the attacking? As a matter of interest...

Frankinstien: Make love not war ! . . . Been there, done that and it's still the same. . . . . . . When we where hunter gatherers in small tribes this worked. Now that we are immense cities it will never get past the bureaucracy . . . . . .

Make love not war

Actractorguy: I would not want to be a leader. I am also not a blind follower either.

There's none so blind as he/she who doesn't want to see wether a leader or a follower

Those who aspire to desire leadership are only in it for themselves.

Bit of a generalisation that in my humble opinion.Leaders,in whatever field, are a neccessity. If we didnt have people who were prepared to stand up and be counted, take the risks, then we would still be trying to invent the wheel.cheers

Somewhat a generalization but I am judging by the actions of those I have seen. The ones that do not usually stay in local politics and do fine jobs.

They were too young for me at least to tell the male ducklings from the female ducklings but it looked more like all the elder ones would attack a smaller and younger one from another family and this each their turn. They wouldn't necessarily kill it on the spot but would wound it seriously enough for it to weaken and not be able to follow it's mother and family around so eventually die within the next few days.

Ah yes the law of nature. It has worked since the first speck of life came into being. Too bad some are trying to bypass it.

Taking care of oneself and ones family is totally commendable thumbs up

And yes I do take care of myself and my family (although they are now grown and independent) BUT I also care and help my community. I grow vegetable. I could buy a bigger freezer to store it all but instead I choose to share them with my neighbours and friends especially if I know they might be struggling this month... Small thing that can make someone's day...

It's like this: Nothing is either black or white. Balance is of the essence.
