What a shambles this day has been though. . .Dunderhead has had his cunning plan thrown back in his face. . .and we have half a government . .and no leader. Lights are on in Leinster House but no one home.

At last we have a date! applause The sooner we get them out the better!

He also said that existing ministers are taking over the portfolios of the ones that have resigned.

Why not appoint new ministers? confused

I think if he did appoint new ministers it would look like creating jobs for the boys again.

Maybe but i'd prefer to see two people doing two jobs badly than see one person doing two jobs very, very badlythumbs down

I'm thinking he is either trying to save as many seats as he can by not exposing his party members to more criticism or nobody in his party wants to touch those jobs.

I don't get why Gormley would do such a stupid thing. These ministers can't do the jobs they have without adding more work on them. Even less will get done now.

The ministers who said they were resigning would normally step down. . .seems they were held on to till FF sorted themselves out and Cowan saved himself. Harney was told not to resign till after it as well. Today was meant to be about bringing in new faces and hopefully extend dail. Greens said they wouldnt vote for new ministers so Cowan had to back down

Why didn't the greens just pull out of government now then instead of waiting until March? The government would fall, a new election would probably happen quicker and everyone wins. Well except FF that is.

Greens want to hang in a while longer. They have a climate change bill they want put through in parallel with the finance bill. Thing is the climate change bill is too onerous in its aims and could cause the country more damage . . .eg agriculture could be decimated and its 1 of the only things working in the country now

Well i guess there is a silver lining to John Gormley veteoing Cowen from appointing new ministers to the posts that were resigned. At least we won't be paying for even more pensions when FF get kicked out of office at the General Election.
