It's as good as any other place that couldn't sustain a higher population despite having enough land to build additional dwellings. The devil's in the details. rolling on the floor laughing

But you also believe the solution is coming in 9 months, so don't sweat it.

gardenhackle: Ethiopians are individuals. How many individuals without a place to stay or food to eat do you have living in your home with you? I mean, seriously, it would be greedy of you to do otherwise, right? Care for the less fortunate, right?

you know what, if i had the cooperation of the world, no one would ever starve or be without housing, fresh water, health care or safe power wink

gardenhackle: I agree. You've identified the problem sure enough, but let's not confuse that with arriving at a solution.

So, too many people. What should be done about that?
There are only 2 ways to reduce the population. Decrease the birth rate or increase the death rate. Take your pick. I would choose decreasing the birth rate but with so many people laboring under the idea that human life is sacred, there are a lot of speed bumps to that choice which leaves only increasing the death rate. Ironically, the same people who regard birth control as sinful, have no problem starting wars which kill millions of people. I really don't comprehend this.

And therein lies the problem. You aren't going to get stiff resistance (to put it mildly) to either proposed solution, so it's not a matter of me or you picking a solution. If it was that simple, we could just agree "1 child per couple until zero population growth has been achieved" and be happily done with it all, the problems of all mankind solved by a simple agreement and handshake. The rest of the population of Earth, however, is more than happy to flip us the bird and tell us to shove our solution's right up the ol' RSU.

Well you guys it really just seems to be getting worse. Radiation levels have doubled in Bendai in the last 24hrs. They are desparately tyring to pump sea water directly on the rods...Risky at best, and apparently two rods were exposed briefly today in reactor three...Im really worried. This could be very bad blues

VE, there's really nothing we can do but watch and hope and pray. I'm already in a bit of a funk and can't dwell on it. So I'm trying to engage in diversionary discussion. My way of dealing with it has no more or less affect on the problem than anyone else's, I'm afraid. blues

Yes V, it's getting very worrying. I heard an expert on BBC TV say that Plutonium radiation can't be detected by traditional Gieger detectors. I assume Japan must be plutonium. Can anyone confirm this ?.......dunno

In response to: TOKYO, March 14 (UPI) -- Japan's earthquake-stricken nuclear power plant was ... If a meltdown and an explosion occur, the engineer says, plutonium could spread over an area up to twice as far as estimated for a conventional nuclear fuel explosion,

they should just nike the reactors to burn up all that fuel before it gets too far out of hand, then dismantle all the rest of the power stations throughout the world and fire their cores into the sun professor

Well even worse Rd, it seems all the indicators and gauges are damaged so they cant even get an accurate read on it. Basically they are shooting blind at this point. Ive just heard that there may be Much more rod exposure than originally reported. As they have no accurate way to measure the water levels. blues

Aren't you too far south to catch the brunt of trade winds that would carry such fallout? I'm not sure North would be better for you, V.

No we would definately experience fall-out. Not as accute as the B.C. coast or even Cali, but when your talking about nuclear exposure, thats kinda splitting hairs. The worst part will be the devastation to the pacific ocean ...Im really worried G blues
