Realistically kids should be a bit afraid of their teachers, kids being kids and all that. It certainly didn't do me any harm.

L1977C: I think the school is making an eXample out of your son ..it is a bit harsh but then on the other hand I think kids have to learn that a quick sorry doesnt always cut it.And if kids are suspended I think the parents should pile housework etc on them They wouldnt be as quick to mess about in school again JMO

totally agree with you that they are making an example of him,i can gaurantee you it wasnt a quick sorry..he was practically begging the principal..the principal told me this.

As regards housework,laugh
My half acre lawn is cut to perfection this past 2 days, not as a punishment but as a way of him putting this time to good use.

He generally is a good lad(not by no means an angel)he is not one to hang around town in groups/gangs,he doesnt smoke and only asked to go to his first disco 2 months ago..which in my opinion is fairly good as he will be 16 in June..
I know plenty that are going to discos since they were 11/12..

Nope, sorry disagree with the Afraid bit..they should imo have RESPECT for their teachers but equally so the teacher should have respect for the student.

I agree with what you are saying but in my case it did cause me harm. I hated my years in secondary scholl because of being constanly afraid of being beaten or kicked by the christian brothers. They could be bruyal at times and if you were sent to the principle he gave you a beating that left bruises and marks that lasted for weeks..
I remeber once bing slapped across the face with a very thick leather with lead in it. I though I was going to pass out.
When I told my parents about this they just said you probably deserved it !

Fair enough, that was brutally excessive. The Brothers had a lot to answer for, most of them should never have been let anywhere near children.

In theory yeah, but just thinking back to my own school days I don't think a bit of fear did me any harm, but then too much fear can stop you learning and you certainly don't want that.

Some kids are just bad kids though (not your son) and will do bad things unless they are afraid of punishment.JMO

i get what you are saying but nobody is born bad...
its the road they choose to take in life that may lead them to do bad things..
Bad kids as you say(i say disruptive kids)couldnt give a damn so there is no fear in them, they dont care if they cause trouble, they laugh at the teacher/adult that dares pull them on something.

misspecial: Ok, my son (15) brought a stink bomb into school last week and another lad let it off..

He has been given 2 days suspension for the CRIME!!

Personally i think the punishment is too harsh/OTT.

I would like to hear peoples opinions on this

I would also like to add that my son apologised and asked not to be suspended,he said he would do ANY other punishment but to please not suspend him..

I wish I had been suspended for my crimes at school !
Would have been much better than being beaten and punched and kicked any day.
If anyone had left off a stink bomb or something to that effect the whole calss would have been slapped and the guilty part expelled.
