EagleWoman: Some people think they are being honest by sharing their opinions. Thing is, their opinon is only THEIR perception of it.
The person being honest would need to be truly aware of what motivates their sharing of opinion. If the ego is involved, forget it, they are not being honest, not even with themselves
EagleWoman: Agree with you on that one ... if "honesty" is used as a tool rather than it flowing because it just is ... I am not quite sure it could be called honesty ...
Also to bear in mind ... something I have come accross many times ... far too many people think of themselves as honest by "convincing" themselves they are doing something (any particular thing) for a particular reason.
Then you realise their is an undercurrent that doesn't match the on the surface stuff.
That's because people lie to themselves about what motivates their actions to hide from themselves who they truly are and of course to be better lie to others ...
amahlala: I have seen some who believe that their excessive honesty is helpful to the person they are giving it to but find out later that they had an ulterior motive in wanting to hurt the other person.
You think your clever because you sussed out that the americans never actually landed a man on the moon, You reckon we didn't have the technology then. Well sonny boy your not as clever as you think because the fact is there is no moon, its an optical illusion
May be, but by being aware, at least while you are doing something you can be aware that your ego is "driving your car" right now instead of kidding yourself it's for some other wonderful reason. That at least is more honest because you are not lying to yourself. I think that may be the first step towards self-honesty awareness is recognising when your ego is doing the driving ...
jac379: Honesty requires a safe environment that fits in with your belief system and freedom of speech. How many people lied about being Jewish, or hiding a Jew during WWII?
How many Chinese families hid their little girls, or second child, rather than leave them to die?
How many people who have been hungry have taken and covered it up with lies?
Honesty is both a right and a luxury, but not always the best policy.
