Zellarrone1: I used to go rarely years ago and buy the odd toy, jigsaw, book etc for my kid but not really a fan of them. Some of my friends love them though and go to all the carboots in different towns.
I like the ones within about 20miles of me thats far enough to go for me. I hate the ones that are inclines! what the hell is that a field on a hill. Great form of exercise on the w/e though and you do not feel the time passing. hug

jonnt: Only thing i know about car boots is that things are nicked in burgalries on saturday nite and passed on for sale in car boots no later than 9pm Sunday .

Ive never done it , taxmans all ive ever kicked , but like you od Liverpool roots , you dont have to be a Canary to be able to whistle ..

I know loads of things
Jonnt not so true! why so negative with me!
They are great fun, there maybe the few scoundrels but generally people are genuine and decent. Well if they pass the items on by 9pm on Sun they have to wait til next week they are all done and finished by 1pm unless the lazy bones ones they finish at 3pmhug

EssJay: I like charity shops too. I usually look in them for some old lace and jewellery to use in my mixed media crafting....found some old lace once wrapped around a folded piece of paper. When I took the lace off the paper to wash it I found the piece of paper was dated in 1947 and there was info about the war written on it,still got that piece of paper.
Charity shops are super for the unusual, great! love the mooch around them.
Had an incident in one last year though, a woman not a lady mind she set upon me verbally. Told me that Charity shops were not for the like of me! What? they were for the poorer people and I was literally stealing from them by buying in this shop. Wow! Its so true that happened here in Brum. teddybear

londonfan: Hi

Don't see the appeal in car boot sales at all, but hope that those of you who do enjoy them continue to do so!
Well each to their own. Many do go out on a Sat night or indeed a Fri night and then like to rest the following day.
I enjoy the old carboots, and after a hectic week at work its a nice way to get some fresh air and maybe a few bargains, like Darren said thing I neither want or need. Still its all good fun.hug

brum_mum: When I was younger, I was taken to them quite often and I enjoyed looking at all the things. Never was allowed to buy anything, not until I went to a great family. I haven't been to a Car Boot sale for many years now, although I tried to arrange for my oldest sons girlfriend and her sister, to take some stuff to one to sell. No Joy..
HI Brumwave Great stuff when you are fit and well which I hope will be soon, we shall try and sort out going to a carboot! Brilliant even if you want to do one, you can use my car, you cannot drive it mind, but use it for sure! hug

Eos11: I love browsing round car boots .. but most are too far to get to without a car .. I enjoy browsing round a few bric-a-brac stalls in the market too sometimes and occasionally charity shops - I like small unusual jugs especially old ones.

I 'found' the last teapot on a carboot about 2 years ago .. it was in perfect condition in the shape of a hen .. and a bargain at £3 too!
its so true, you find the strangest of things, and old yes. Brilliant.
I have got some Antique Cats they sit proudly on my Mantle, I adore them got them from a Carboot, and would you believe it was a DATE! cheapskate! never even offered me a cuppa there. Needless to say never did see him again. I will always rememeber as that is where the CATS came from. Think £20 for them that was a steal.hug

Eos11: Interesting about the paper dating back to the 1940's -- I love looking through really old magazines, newspapers and others.

I enjoy browsing in charity shops too for perhaps things I can add to the garden (large jugs or vases), I keep a look out for small jugs too, or hand embroidered pillows, chair backs, tray cloths etc as these can make really nice gifts .. ie. pomanders for drawers or coat hangers, or just hanging on door handles ... or covering wooden coat hangers, favourite books, small boxes etc, lots of uses for prettily worked fabrics - adding small beads here and there too makes things even nicer.
The amoun of fabric that you find at the carboots is super. Got curtains that I turned into cushion covers, fabric that I made a dog bed from for a pal. Its so cheap too! I even had fantastic curtain for my lounge some years back for a pittance of around a tenner, they would have cost me £400 to buy in the shops. Pays to shop around. I then gave them to a girl who had none a couple of years later and she still has them. Its pass it on. We should start a swap shop on here! things we dont want exchange them!
Wonder if that would work. teddybear

Never thought that piece of paper would be of any value....now you mention it, it could be I suppose.....who would I have to contact in the first instance to get some idea of its value.

Sail, where I live, we have a couple of second hand shops, but you really have to look carefully for the good finds. Once in a while I go and take a look, but don't always get anything. Always in the look out for nice picture frames though(cheap). they can be fun.
My parents are always going to them and finding great things. they found a flat screen monitor for $5.00. Got a de-humidifier for their home(new) for free(it was too small for the house it was bought for). They go very early...if I go, it is later and if I am already out.
You just never know what you will find...and it can be a fun adventure!wine

All these places are super, you never know what treasures they hold. I found recently 2 fantastic Golf Club pictures of olden times, I have them up in my lounge. Love them. So keep searching hun. teddybear
