Kate McCann has penned a book about her lost daughter Madeleine to encourage people to come forward with fresh information.
The new book, simply titled Madeleine, is due to be published on May 12, which will be the Leicestershire schoolgirl’s eighth birthday.
Do you believe the McCann`s had a part in the dissappearance of their daughter or do you think the Portugese Police were wrong to suspect them?
I personally think the book is in bad taste, especially after the stories of inapproiate use of the Madeleine fund by the McCanns. They seem to be making a lot of money from their daughters dissapperance.
Sunnydaze14: Don't you think that they have gone through enough pain without starting a thread looking for criticism of them?
Well it is them who are writing books to bring the event back up again! And personally I think they are to blame for her dissapperance....I feel they were involved. But if they were not involved they certainly were neglegent for leaving 3 children under the age of 7 alone in an apartment! If they had been from a poorer family social services would have taken their other two kids. Plus I doubt they are CS members....Don't ya think???

I've no idea whether they were negligent in any way. I wasn't there. I've never been there.
I think we like to blame the parents for something like this because it removes ourselves from the possibility that it could ever happen to us. Of course the other tactic is to blame the child.
Personally, I think it was a kidnapper that kidnapped this child.
The reality, as any parent knows, the smallest lapse in concentration, maybe because of parenting tiredness, is enough for a determined person to take advantage.
If writing this book raises awareness, raises money, brings forward information, or is simply Kate McGann's coping strategy, well done her, I say.
I find it abhorrent that people who have been through so much tragedy then get kicked while they are down, by the likes of you, you cowardly tw*t.
Yes, I agree that they should not have left them alone, they should have known better than to do that. But I am sure that knowing that has given them hell ever since. They will never forgive themselves. A poorer family and social services, good point there, you could be right.
And no, I am pretty sure they are not cs members but who knows. They could have friends or family here

Is leaving 3 children under the age of 7 alone in an apartment not negligent???? If it was a kidnapper why only take one child??? There were 3 in the apartment? The people who know the most are the portugese police and they think the McCanns did it. Scptland Yard also suspected them. They also paid their mortgage with the fund to find Madeleine! People did not donate money for that! I doubt she is writing the book to raise awareness. I would say she is looking to make more money!
Nothing can ever compare to the grief of losing a child and I can't imagine how they must be feeling. I have no harsh words, because I'm sure they kick themselves enough for what has happened and wish they could go back to that one moment in time. Such a true tragedy and I'd never wish this on anyone.

jac379: People leave their children .........
Well said! These people have been through hell. Letting them write a book gives them hope that a clue might come forward.
Sides, to persecute them on the small chance they might be guilty of this crime is to wreak psychological harm beyond rational reason on an innocent, grieving couple based on nothing but a suspicion.

I've always thought the parents were involved. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Let's not forget that some eyewitnesses positively identified the father as the man they saw carrying a "sleeping" girl away from the area that night, and that the parents told conflicting stories, and that dogs trained to find only the body fluids of dead bodies reacted in ways to suggest that she had been hidden behind a sofa prior to being taken away from the hotel.
It's not just a question of their capitalizing on the death. There is real forensic evidence to suggest that the parents were involved.

Positive identification of the father: People are notoriously bad at identification and photo-fit picture creation. I have given evidence twice in my life, once I made an appalling photofit picture. Once my recreation was in my head, I think it would have been very difficult to seperate it from reality and make an accurate identification, had I been asked.
Another time, another crime, I was asked to describe the position that I found my friend sitting in. I realised afterwards that I had superimposed the way my sister sits onto my memory of the crime scene. My sister is very skinny, my friend too busty to sit with her arms the way I had described to the police.
Also, how much media, or gossip attention was their at the time that could have imposed itself on the witnesses memories?
Conflicting stories: As demonstrated above, it happens, especially when under duress. Nobody remembers things exactly as they were, nobody has the same perspective sitting in different places in a room.
Sniffer dogs: Let me tell you a little story about sniffer dogs. When my daughter was small, I took her by train to meet her father wearing a fluffy dog suit that I had made her, complete with tail and ears. When we got to the main concourse, her dad picked her up and tickled her inside her dog suit in greeting and then said that he needed to just nip into the shop there.
The station had many police officers with sniffer dogs at the time and as I waited with my daughter one of the dogs started barking at her ferociously.
She was wearing a dog suit. It was hysterically funny. The police handler went bright red with embarassment because he couldn't stop his dog from barking at a little girl in a dog suit.
At this point daddy reappeared and ushered us away, saying how unfair it was that the dog was getting distressed and the handler humiliated.
Years later, a very big penny dropped. When my daughter's father tickled her inside her dog suit, he'd stashed his little supply of whatever he was smoking, snorting, or popping at the time inside her clothes.
The dog was barking at my daughter because she smelled of drugs, not because she was wearing a dog suit.
The moral of this tale: even if sniffer dogs were 100% accurate, the handler may misinterpret the dog's response.
