I've been watching Celerity Apprentence and one of the contenders is a cowboy. Whenever he is indoors, he leaves his cowboy hat on including when in the boardroom. I thought a man was supposed to take his hat off when indoors but it appears I am wrong.
The link is very interesting and explains the history of why men are/were supposed to take their hat off when the National Anthem is playing but women didn't have to.
At first the article says that 40 years ago when women wore hats, men were expected to take their hat off when indoors but women didn't have to because they had hat pins, bows and ribbons and it was too much trouble to take their hat off.
If a man and woman are at a baseball game and both are wearing baseball caps, the man is expected to take his off when the National Anthem is playes but not the woman. Certainly her cap doesn't have bells and whistles but she still isn't expected to take her hat off.
The cowboy on the Apprentice wears his hat in the boardroom and this seems inappropriate to me.
I think some of the men on here wear cowboy hats and I'm wondering, under what conditions do you take your hat off when indoors?
Do different cultures have rules about hats on indoors?
