Glatlol: I realise thats what he meant and didnt mean to sound critical of his post.

Personally I was prescribed a number of different meds before one was found that worked for me. It happened to be prozac, but I realise different meds work for different people.

Ah no different ones work for different people. I was just shocked how prozac made me feel, had to get off it asap

Glatlol: The road to overcoming depression is different for every sufferer and what works for one may not work for the other. I wouldnt immediately dimiss the use of medications.

In most cases a combination of medication and the correct therapy are the route to handling depression.

Well i suffered from manic depression there about 3 years ago and nearly committed suicide from it just a few personal things that affected me in my own life at the time and alot of negatived people in my life who were causing me pain and hurt.when sitting in hospital i asked myself why i came to be here anyway cut a long story short the doctor put on antidepressants and which made me worst i couldn't get of bed so i went back to doctor and came of the drugs i was on i went to someone and chatted about my problems and cut everybody from life who was been negative and believe me I'm grand now alot more confident and happy in myself medication doesn't always work in some cases.

Yes thats why I said in most cases a combination of meds and therapy works.

Sometimes we need to get to the root of whats causing the depression, sometime its not anything that circumstances but our brain chemistry that causes it.

In my case it was both, my manic episodes followed some traumatic instances in my life, which I dealt with in therapy, but I also have SAD which I will always have but have learned how to manage.

I know a guy that is suffering with depression quite badly On antidepressants and is in therapy but I also think your diet and alcohiol intake can be major players in adding to depression dunno

Not shocking to me at all. Most of the people I have met who live with depression are masters of the art of being jolly.

That in itself doesnt mean someone is depressed. We can all feel down at times and just not want to talk about it or bother others (thats how we see it not them). However coupled with other things may be an indicator.

One of my biggest hates is people saying "Im depressed" when in fact all they are feeling is down or pissed off. I know these are genuine feelings but are far from depression.

oh i wasnt suggesting that by any means that means someone is depressed i know there is other factors invovled before someone can be diagnoised with depression by their doctor

I seem to keep putting my foot in it tonight and people think I am being critical of their posts.

Wasnt my intention at all, probably should have posted my response in two different posts, if that makes any sense lol.

We're all behind ye bud . Yes I've been there after my dad passed away at 65 to cancer 3 years ago . Not a day goes by that I dont think of him . I personally wouldnt rush out to go for counselling but wouldnt advise against it but I believe as has been said , having friends close by does the trick .
