NoeloD076: Just wondering if anyone here has accessed counseling without having been referred by a doctor? Do you have to be referred by a GP, is it costly, is it covered by private health insurance, is there a waiting list? How does a person go about getting counseling?

there free counseling available it just find out where it is. Pietia house in lucan is free they just take donations. theres a free one on the hse too. Id recommend to get help as soon as possable. cognative behavoural therapy very succesfull too hard to access but you can. Id say go for douple therapy talking and medication. trust your self if the medication not agreeing with you and makes you feel worse get reviewed asap!!

one thing in life is a fact, many people have serious mental problems, depression being one that slowly can lead to other stuff, one view is that, it don't matter how bad it gets, if u move, change a job, take some money & travel for a bit, working when u can, are just tricks to smooth-over the bad times,

A close friend of mine gave me a hand tagging some cattle, next day he shot him self, found-out his wife had taken the kids & moved -in with a guy in Sydney,

I often wonder, If he had just sold-up & walked away,

It is a good move to just sell-up, & move away, meet other People, & find a new path to travel,

My other friend took-up fiddle playing, he always played a bit, but he got right-into it now, & made that his life, he don't mess with relationships anymore.

Come-back if u need to.... cool

chancer_mcgancer: will be going soon

with me it's more of an energy thing. lack of energy --> depression

but sure it'll all work out

Y'a, energy thing, best not to worry, just go to bed & sleep, even all day, just chil, & move around when u can,

If u ant been to a doctor, u can try that, I always think self control is better than tablets, but its handy having the tablets there just in-case.cool

Contact AWARE, they have weekly meetings for suffers and provide a great support network. I suffered from it a good few years ago... get help, it is an illness and can be managed very well...Try get out for a walk, it does help... for many the hardest part is acknowledging that they are suffering. good luck with it

I find when you give advice like go out for a walk or whatever, it's all well and good, but will only work when the person is already in the recovery process. (ie seeking help), it is of little benefit when the person is going through a depressive episode. That's just my experience.
