As a kid, we often went to the ANZAC Parade through Melbourne. As an adult, I always go to the dawn service. This is my way of honouring past and present soldiers. I have taken my kids since they were very young.

ANZAC biscuits and lots of poetry, visiting the RSL and talking to the old soldiers. Watching Gallipoli in the school library.

And as I grew older I came to love a soldier very much and knowing what he does for his country, the risk he takes, the life he has chosen to lead, made ANZAC day so much more real to me in mch more of a sense then watching Mel Gibson dressed up in a uniform in the dusty old school library.

Many years ago I was in the Army Reserves - on our Recruit camp we had a Sergeant who told us about Aussies in battle - we all walked out of that room with so much awe and respect for those men - there is no other soldier on earth who has the sheer bloody mindedness and tenacity - for those who fought and died so we could be free - I will remember as I hope we all do. My grandson (5 months old) watched his father march in the Anzac Parade today - he may only be little boy but he waved the Aussie flag. The ANZACs gave more than we can know - they should all be remembered as heroes.

I didnt get to a service today, but instead I went and visited the widow of Dunkirk and D'Day veteran.

To pay tribute to his memory and support her in her memories.

As a kid I can remember going to services, and the last post always brings the goosebumps up on my arms.
Grandad was medically released from the Army in World war 1, I think he was at Fromelles, so great were the things he witnessed that he could never speak of them.

To all who fought for their countries and paid the ultimate sacrifice, Lest we forget.

To all other former service men and women, and all current serving men and women defending their countries, Thank you for protecting us

I was watching a program on Foxtel this morning about the Anzacs - it breaks your heart to thin of all the lives lost and the families affected by the loss.

We had that same conversation this morning - the senseless slaughter and the politicians and leaders just kept sending those men to their deaths

Wysterious: We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I am very proud of the ANZACS!
But I am disappointed in the stupidity of the people of the time? The fact that we are in a war on terrorism now just supports the fact that people are just as stupid now!

Check the facts on who just started this latest war! The CIA! Or the cocaine importers agency if you like! It is not just a coincidence that more drugs get to our kids every time America goes to war?

Taliban cocaine imports %0

CIA cocaine imports %90

Who is the terrorist?

I put this on another thread but feel it really hits home and should be shared here too!!

A poem to read for ANZAC day.
He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the RSL,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his mates listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife..
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we know,

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier--
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days..

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank cheque made payable to ' Australia ', ' New Zealand ', or any other country for an amount "up to and including my life".

That is Honour, and there are way too many people in this WORLD who no longer understand it.
