Ok ive only been on here a few days now and have been encouraged by alot of the success stories ive read on here. But id also be interested in hearing the not so success stories. People traveling long distances to find dishonesty. Anything that will help others when considering making their next move.

Okay, I know this is quite an old thread but I think it's an interesting post and would like to add to it. I've one story which isn't so much a disaster as to put anyone off. It's more funny to be honest. Well, at least everyone who knew about it thought it was funny at the time.

About 6 years ago, when I was aged 40 I became very pally online, also on phone with what I'd been led to believe was a 34 year old MALE teacher from Texas. We talked intimately, swapped pics for about 3 months and were even considering arranging to meet. However, we did start to bicker and decided not to keep in contact at all anymore. All the time this was going on there were other people on same chat/dating site or whatever it was that we were friends with. One of my good friends was a lady from North Carolina who ends up falling in love with the 34 year old male teacher from Texas and arranges to meet him, this was 2 years after I'd quit contact with what I thought was a guy. So, to cut a long story short - she meets him and finds out HE is really a 54 year old lesbian, who obviously sounded masculine on the phone and sent false pics out. Webcams weren't so common 6 years ago, not every single person had one. So, just goes to show how we can be taken in and I'm glad I never did meet her after all. Was a shame my american friend met her but at elast we both found out the truth in the end and also saw funny side of it laugh

I just wondered if any more of you out there have any funny little stories such as this dunno uk

Did you find out the reason though, was he married, or just lost interest or hiding something else?

He just desappeared. And i see his been online, he signs in at least.
I asked for pics, he just told me a story about his camera.

He was such a sweet guy.

I told him i'd probably visit a friend of mine close to him. After weeks of silence, he asked me if i was still going to visit my friend! How ghost does that sound?doh

I've experienced that with other guys, they act real nice and enthusiastic and then don't hear from them for ages. I don't know why that happens, maybe it's a some kind of a "man thing" laugh

it reminds me a bit of something that happened to me 2 years ago, when I was seeing a bloke from Lancashire uk for a few months who I met online. There were times when I didn't hear from him for a couple of days or longer. Then after 6 months I found out he had a girlfriend, it was actually her who contacted me. So it did explain why he didnt seem to be around sometimes, obviously he was spending time txting, talking to her on phone online meeting her or whatever. Obviously time consuming being such a player laugh laugh

You mean the lesbian in the first story? Oh, I think she just fancied straight women but if she'd said she was a woman then we wouldnt have been interested in being so close to her, talking intimately etc.

I have dated three guys off the internet so far, but for varying reasons it has not turned out. I think the most important thing is not to get too involved without meeting first. It is easy to get caught up in all the intenet and texting etc, but physical chemistry is what matters. Be honest about who you are and what want in your profile as you will get found out eventually. The other suggestion to you as a guy is dont give money out for plane tickets etc.. if they live far away arrange to meet half way and each pay your own. Somewhere neutral, with no expectations rather than just be friends initially and if you get on then time is on your side ot get to know each other better. Good luck. There are some really lovely people on here but you quite often only hear the negative stuff unfortunately. wave comfort

Well, I have had experience of two that turned out to be Players! One guy was in NZ and led me a merry dance for 6 months!! I am so glad I found out when I did rather than later, of course.

With both I do shudder and think "phew.... that was a close shave"!! At least one of them is no longer on the site.thumbs up
