Sorry chief I wandered off after posting . You've been updated though . My grand-uncle was a regular Target for late night callers also , once being threatened by one holding a hedgeclipper to his throat so I for one wouldn't spare such thieving lowlifes an inch .

biggles90000: Just reading the paper there about a poor young lady who was robbed in Galway apparently the scumbag locked herself and her six month child in the garden shed while he proceeded to rob the house.

Should we have the the right to defend ourself against robbers if they come on to our property. what our your views on this?

Bit late answering ( as usual laugh ) but not sure if any of you remember the case of Tony Martin the farmer who shot & killed a burglar at his farmhouse in Cambridgeshire in 1999. Tony had been burgled numerous times & was rightly so sick of it happening to him. He was jailed after the shooting. Best of it is the scumbag that burgled him ( one that didn't get shot obviously ) sued him for damages. My thoughts are that if you trespass on someones propety like that you get what you deserve very mad

Here's the story if anyones interested :

If I rememnber correctly, the laws were changed recently, to afford better protection to the victim. Whereas it used to be reasonable force(determined by the state) now it the force that you deem necessary to protect either you or your family. Therefore you can technically kill/maine/badly hurt the attacker and be protected by the law.... There was a case in Kilmacanogue years ago where a man oput walking with his wife returned home, saw windows open in the house and she went to call the gardai... He got his gun friom the car(he'd been shooting earlier that morning) entered his house and one of the burglars ran at him, the owner shot the bloke...Later the burglar sued the owner and the judge ruled "Well if yoou weren't in the house you'd never have been shot...case dismissed"...

That was your work place you see and not your home. Different standards apply there. You need to get licenced nowadays which is a good idea.
