Just reading the paper there about a poor young lady who was robbed in Galway apparently the scumbag locked herself and her six month child in the garden shed while he proceeded to rob the house.

Should we have the the right to defend ourself against robbers if they come on to our property. what our your views on this?

As far as I know we have the right to use 'reasonable' force to defend ourselves and our property. The courts determine what's reasonable and what's not.

snowlynx: Personally I think you should be able to stick a Magnum revolver in their face and say 'I know what you're thinking, did he fire all six shots or only five, well to tell ya the truth, in all this confusion I've kinda lost count myself. So I guess what it comes down to is do ya feel lucky today, well do ya punk'?

Padraig Nally from Cross , Co Mayo gets my vote everytime in the fight to defend ones OWN LIFE AND PROPERTY . He saved his own life and property and relieved decent society of one thieving scumbag .

Yeah, the problem was he shot him on his land but then followed him as he walked back and got into his car on the road outside and shot him again. Excessive force.

Nally was convicted in Mayo but appealed to a higher court in Dublin. A Dublin jury quashed his conviction and Nally walked free.

A home owner always had the right to use 'reasonable force' in defence of their person and property but the Home Defence Bill 2010 stepped that up to 'justifiable force' which the Bill says may result in the death of an intruder but it will be a judge and jury that will ultimately decide if the force was justifiable or not. You are not required to retreat anymore and any area of your property close to the home is covered by the Bill. It's not justifing 'Lethal Force' per say but if you turn up in court looking good and the scumbag on the slab or in the hospital has record you will more than likely walk.

What sort of a 'Magnum revolver' were you intending to use Snowlynx? A .357, a .44 or a .22? Sugar77's idea of a 9mm sounds better but not under the pillow. There are about 500 pistol licences in Ireland. You can apply for one in the District Court. Go on a holiday to Prague of Sofia where you can go to a gun club and fire all the calibres so you know what your up against but my advice is get a pit bull.

This guy does some good reviews
