Godsgift: OK. I'll tell Gregori, the workshop foreman in Sheils, the main Ford dealer in Ennis and Limerick, that all these courses he was sent to Dublin for aren't worth the price of the paper of the certificates hanging on the service centre wall! Perhaps you should ring him and put him right.

Here:

Talk to a customs man and he will tell you diesel is diesel regardless of the Dye added and you only really get laundered stuff around the border region not as far down as Limerick or clare

yup dsl is dsl regardless of its color, having said that the diesel sold in ireland is of a poorer quality than that in the uk or mainland europe, for whatever reason the refinery's here use more chemical's than anywhere else like in mainland europe white dsl is white as in its clear like water, white dsl here in ireland is like a clear mucky yellow color it also seems to be thicker than anywhere else dunno

ford's in particular have a big problem with the dsl sold here, the ford transit is the most popular nd reliable commercial vehicle in the uk where as here in ireland they are a nightmare for damaging injectors which all to often if not dealt with swiftly causes mayor damage to the engines conversing

change fuel filters on a regular basis even if its not due to be changed, i used to service a cpl 07/08 transits they were doing aprox 1500/2000mls weekly, every 2 weeks they got a new filter nd we didn't have half the promblems that other couriers with the same vans had dunno

Diesel is sold on the world markets as a separate entity from Crude Oil. All the diesel comes out of the same refineries but at varying quality but different companies require different additives and detergents along with an antifreeze. Anyone who drove diesels before the mid 1980s will tell you about having to mix in an amount of petrol to prevent the fuel thickening in cold weather.

Speculators buy up the lower quality, high sulfur diesel on the world markets and sell it through cut price outlets like City Diesel.

Like any other product, Texaco, Maxol or Shell will require a certain level of quality that perhaps Amber or Apple do not. It's like the difference between Birdseye Frozen Veg or Dunns Frozen Veg. All made in the same factories but to different quality levels. So dsl is not just dsl!

And I am talking Mondeo TDCIs here which use the Transit Engine which you quite rightly mention require high quality fuel which brings me back to my original advice which is to avoid cheap diesel!doh
