professor Okay okay, stop the bickering... and lets get on with the subject here....professor

Has the church lost touch with reality? I`d say they never were in touch with reality to begin with, therefore they could not lose touch with it. After all, churches deal with the spiritual side of life, not reality. They took over from all the great village Shamans, those guys who waved feathers around, blew dust in your face, spoke to rocks, and predicted death, all that sort of stuff.
Now people still need their spiritual care, they need someone to send their dead off with incantations, they need spiritual blessings on marriage unions, to call down blessings from heaven on their new-borns, to conduct weekly ceremonies of worship, etc etc.

However... they also deal in reality at times, especially when the roof of the temple begins leaking and needs fixing, or their multitudes have increased and they need a larger building, or the Shaman needs new transport.... So I wouldnt say they have lost touch COMPLETELY with reality. Its just that at times it appears so, but thats only because all is well, and they not in need. When they in need you get to hear more about reality.dancing dancing dancing

rolling on the floor laughing Nah Wedward, you getting confused with Politicians I think!
If the churches all combined (REALY! They fight each other now, what would happen if they COMBINED!) and sold off their assets, and conducted their "Services" under an old Oak tree.... what exactly would be their incentive to continue?
Looks to me, in my humble uneducated view, that the greatest incentive these days, for churches, and especially if some bright new spark began a NEW one, is to cajole all the filthy lucre out the patrons pockets... to subsidise the new jet, new bigger better building, the wifes shoe collection, all those mundane things that make life worth living.
Another thing I just thought of.... we forgetting those guys who are "Missionaries"... the ones who dont actually work... who go out and live in exotic foreign lands, and convert those unbelievers in their particular religion and then make them work so they also earn money, and then extract THAT filthy lucre out their pockets to subsidise MORE missionaries.. to go into the rain-forests and convert the pigmy head-hunters from their way of life, build them tin shacks and a supermarket, so THEY now got to work (catching and selling the rain-forest birds) and earn money to subsidise more missionaries..... and on and on and on and on.... I`m running out of space now... so got to stop!dancing dancing dancing

Hi Wedward, this is a nice quastion.

I belive in god and i pray, but i don't go to church. I'm trying to express my self and i hope to get an answer from you.

I don't go to church cause i don't belive in priest and in what thay say. I just speak with god all the time and where ever i am he is always there for us. I don't know if you here news from Malta and Italy, But so many priest get arrested cause thay violent kids and thay make tham do horrible things to tham.

I also belive that people make war cause of the religion. How maey people die cause of diffrent religion?

Yes the church lot the touch in people lives, and it will be always worst. I hope you understand what i tryed to say. angel devil

Depends on ones' definition of reality. I'd say the Church serves a purpose - but I'd ask if it's "good" or "evil". If it's purpose is "helping", then it has not. If it's purpose is "eliminating the competition", then it has. Essentially, the question is as old as humanity. The final answer will be received upon cessation of your own life....patience.
