I thought being the new kid on the block, I would introduce myself in a slightly different way.
Although this is rather on the deep side, it was written many moons ago, and doesn't really fit myself any longer. I have gone the opposite direction, you'll find me to be goofy as ..scold oops, sorry!

The Wall

Brick by brick I built a wall.
Stout and weathered, strong and tall
Hurt by hurt I closed a part
Torn and betrayed, a damaged heart.

Foundation formed of life alone,
Thick like rock, a solid stone.
The wall can't waver, never fall
and none can scale because they'll fall.

I built my fortress at first to hide,
Protection for my wounded pride.
But now I see as life goes on,
my wall's a prison and I'm inside.

Brick by brick I'll take it down.
With trust and hope I'm freedom bound.
To try and not get hurt again.
Hurts so much worse, then avoiding the pain.

I am not bitter for the wall,
Protected me when I was small.
From wounded pasts and cloudy skies,
But, with it down I see with brave new eyes.

Hi Claypot,

Looks like you've gone from being an impenetrable wall to becoming something as vulnerable as a clay pot.

Just for the record, many people may not notice your introduction in the poetry forum. So you might want to think about posting something the "Introduce Yourself" forum. You'll get a lot more "welcomes" posting under that heading.

In the meantime, "Welcome to the forums Claypot!"

My name's James, but everyone usually just calls me Abra or magic man.

Thanks that was great Claypot and I look at all the threads, so not a worry where you started really.

Be welcome here and enjoy, take care...Siren

Abra forget to tell you he is the magic man with words as you will no doubt see for yourself.

I think your poem discribes a lot of us, I'm told my wall is still too high.
