The Swedish Parliament has approved a law which will regulate the growing, usage and trade of cannabis. This is according to the Health and Social Services of Sweden, Jonas Grönhög, who was quoted, "We don't want to make the same mistakes which the USA has done, we do not want to be prohibitionists because the war on drugs has been lost long ago. It is better to prevent marginalization of young people than jail them for soft drugs usage which are comparatively harmless. If we allow the sale of alcohol, there is no reason to ban the soft drugs no longer."
Cannabis products are going to be available in the pharmacies in Sweden as non-prescription medicine begining April 20 in 2012 and customers more than 18-years-old can buy 10 grams at once. Growing for personal usage will be tolerated up to 200 grams of dried marijuana and larger amounts stay illegal. It is likely that this will target the Police resources on more serious crime, especially on organized crime, drug trafficking and trafficking in human beings which have been increased for lack of the Police resources in recent years.

A large part of the attraction for adoloscents smoking weed is that it's illegal and rebellious. I don't think legalisation of weed will quench the Teen's thirst for rebellion, only now they'll have to start someplace more extreme, perhaps with coke or meth.

'Sweden Legalizes Cannabis' Story Is Just A Hoax

A story which went viral on the Web today -- indicating that Sweden had bravely forged ahead of its Scandinavian neighbors and legalized cannabis -- appears to be a hoax.
One story on JustPaste. It, headlined "Sweden legalizes and regulates cannabis," created a bit of a stir (and a storm of page hits) on social media networks.
However, the story, which linked to no confirming sources and listed as its source "420 Dagbladet, Stockholm, December 19, 2011," could not be confirmed anywhere else and seems to have no validity.
"420 Dagbladet," which would mean "420 Daily Newspaper," doesn't even appear to exist, either as a website or as a print publication.
Users in the "Sensationalist Headlines" section on the forums of the site FacePunch weren't fooled for long, and the member who posted the item appeared to have been banned from the site as a result.
The story quickly went viral on the cannabis oriented "Trees" section of social media news sharing site Reddit, but as its shakiness and lack of verification became obvious, users voted the story down in almost equal numbers to the up votes. As of 5:32 p.m. Pacific time on Monday, the submission had logged 1,238 up votes and 1,074 down votes, for a net score of 164. (Yeah, I was one of those down votes.)

We can still discuss the topic of Legalization though.

Why do you say this? If the article were true, pot would still be illegal for those under 18.
I am concerned about this topic, and want opinions because a Presidential candidate is suggesting we give the States authority to legalize pot and other drugs.
Here in the U.S., alcohol consumption laws are left up to the individual states. Some states the leagle age is 18 and in others it is 21. In many states it is legal for an underaged person to drink with their parent in a bar or restaurant.

Firstly, i'd just like to say that i'm glad to see that is a hoax, albeit a believable one, which is itself concerning.
I say what I say for two reasons. One is that drugs are very easy to get hold of, hard or soft, if you want them. Secondly, by legalising weed you make it uncool, seriously uncool, so which drug becomes the new cool? Which drug, if not weed, will be pushed upon young people by peer pressure? Which drug becomes first choice for anyone who wishes to rebel?

I'd venture to guess there'll be a hell of a tax on it. I'd also guess that's the underlying reason for legalizing it. More revenue.

I think it should be legal with the caveat that drug testing by employers, social, contractors, transport workers and police can be administered at any time to see who has partaken and, as to what degree.
Of course, this would then give authorities another excuse to stop anybody they wish at any time for any reason as this would provide a blanket excuse but, if people want to have a legal hemp high then by all means, take the responsibility with it.
