The people who are hardest on those with drink problems are always those who have had problems themselves and haven't dealt with them properly. Their sense of self hatred comes into play when asked to deal with someone else with the same problem. Those who have dealt with it always have compassion for those going through the ordeal.

Untouchable, I can see that you understand the situation and are dealing with your mother the best you can. Take care of yourself and your own babies first and only then might you have the strength to take care of your mother. It might be that there is someone enabling her and I pray you all find the strength to sort it all out with love.

What a stupid thing to say!!!

So people like George Best, Oliver Reed, Billy Connolly, Gabriel Byrne, Frank Skinner and Robbie Williams to name a few had and have no life?

Walk away walk away walk away . I've experience with alcoholic family member and guy I dated . They won'st and can't change . All the love in the world won't stop them .you think it will it won't. They are addicts . Only when they reach rock bottom will they stop .they can't stop won't stop until they reach rock bottom no money left ...nothing. They will loose home, family, job self respect doesn't exist only thought of next drink .the hospital health care professionals aren't uncaring . They will have seen this story unfold a million times . Alcoholics can only change when they have nothing some commit suicide at this stage .. the longer they drink the nastier more vicious they often become too .they blame everyone you, their parents ,the world, etc etc .yes they have probably childhood or other trauma that needs deep psychological help counselling but drink is what they choose its their drug their addiction same as any addict . They will bleed you dry ,break your heart ,and you know what ???? When they eventually get sober they're often not very nice people anyway . ...warped needing help but many never fave their demons by getting the follow up counselling they need to really get to root of their addiction .many have trauma many suffer depression etc some become addicts .long-term drinking changes the personality . Don't feel pity they are remorseless cunning prey on your kindness . All addictions are tge same ......drugs alcohol gambling same modus operandus ......lying predatiry remorseless hurting you over and over again .WALK AWAY .
