Absolutely! There's such snobbery when it comes to these things; I can't stand it. All just a matter of taste.

Love comedians who push the boundaries!!! The whole idea of comedy is to reflect back the things most people wouldn't say. Bill Hicks, Tommy Tiernan, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Frankie Boyle!!

Had intended starting a thread someday on a similarish topic, so excuse me if I hijack for a while! 
But, is it just me or are comedians a recent phenominom?! It seems to me that one must have a 'favourite comedian', just like one has to have a favourite movie/band/book etc. Its a question that pops up in mails here, 'so who's your favourite comedian?!', 'well, ermm...I'm not really into comedians.....do I have to be? Is it 'the thing' to be into?

I like funny people, I dont like Neil Delamere, in fact, I cant stand Neil Delamere!! He's the most unfunny guy I know.
As for my comedy prefrence I'll break it down as such:
Irish comedy: bit silly, not much depth to it (ie Father Ted) but, funny and watchable.
American comedy: Overly obvious, in your face, really dumb....not funny!
British Comedy: Intelligent, dark, realistic.....just right (for me! :D)
But, is it just me or are comedians a recent phenominom?! well look at americans like tina fey, steve carell, bill hicks, will ferrel, lenny bruce... hardly 'dumb' comedy... but i can see your point to a certain degree... a lot of comedy tv shows in the states are dumb... but look at the office, or south park, or omdern family or some amazing stand up comedians in the states
