Is it just me, or does anyone else find it strange that these "Terms of Endearment" are regularly used on the forums, between people that have never met???

Maybe some people use these words everyday and I'm just out of touch, but I cringe slightly every time I see people saying "thanks hun"!!!

Agree with you about this and the text thing. I have no idea why people feel the need to go around being overly familiar and best friends with people they possibly might never meet,,,,,the whole babe, hun crap makes me cringe....then again I am just a crabby auld wan.
Happy New Year

No i dont find the use of these terms of endearment strange,i dont like the use of them towards me or from one female to another barf but each to there own dunno

The "terms of endearment" i do find strange/repulsive on here are "Muppet,Dickhead,Tool,a**hole etc.."
I cannot figure out why grown adults (usually men)find the need to call each other these names dunno barf barf barf

So imo,hun/luv etc is far better than those TOE.

As for people saying hiya A,B,C,D...
That is just being friendly personally with someone they have got to know imo.

Perhaps you are just here too long dunno but if what people write as in "hun, luv etc" or hiya ??? makes you cringe that much that you created a thread about it then maybe its time to stop reading the forums/leave..dunno
Just my opinion dunno

I never used to use the words "hun/darlin" when i was talking to anyone, no matter how well I did or didn't know them, started hanging around with a couple of people who are now really close friends and few years ago and picked up the habit from them. I used to cringe everytime I realised I said it to someone I don't know, but now it's more habit than anything else, more often than not I don't even realise i've said/typed it. Nothing is ever meant by it and for the people that I am close to I don't use them, nickanames for them are personal and more in line with who they are.
