Ah she did...I bought her drink and she bought mine... I was drinking a pint when she came in and I bought her a drink, then she bought me one cos she wasn't ready for another herself...the night continued like that...

I don't think we can judge though as the comment was taken out of context. Maybe he's not into wine. However if your friend mentioned it to you then she probably has other concerns. A cheap skate is never attractive!

As others have said before, we all have different views on what is value for money. I am a book fanatic so what I might spend on a book would seem ridiculous to others. Vice versa 8/9 euros on a box of cigarettes is a ludicrous waste of money to me!!
