Maybe he actually is short of a few bob since the end of the boom and just can't afford it any more due to debt and this is an indirect admission of that. There are too not many people swimming in cash these days.

What i said to her was ............ what i honestly thought if he had no money or was out of work then he was letting you know the score ............... but, he has the cash and he was letting her know he was not up for splashing it in others words, he is tight IMO
