The wedding ring has been worn on the third finger of the left hand since Roman times. The Romans believed that the vein in that finger runs directly to the heart. The wedding ring is a never-ending circle, which symbolizes everlasting love.

Thanks
So the whole "Christian" ceremony of exchanging rings comes from barbaric pagans? Was that before Constantine decided to take up the Christian faith or after?
If it came after, I can understand why the impotance of the Christian ceremony. If it came before, they'd have a problem justifying it, wouldn't they?

WomniZer: Can someone tell me where the custom of wearing wedding rings comes from?
What do they represent?
Are they important?
And for Muslims: Is it true that the Muslim bride and grooms wear it on the right hand and not on the left hand? Why?
Thanks for your answers.
The first wedding was performed by Jesus Christ in Kanaan of Galilea Jerusalem. And also he performed his first miracle ,turn water to wine.
The wedding ring goes closest to your heart. Left hand.
The way I heard it was the you take off your engagment ring before the wedding ceremony and put it on the other hand. During the ceremony your new husband puts the wedding band on the ring finger of your left hand. Afterwards, the engagement ring is moved over and sits on the outside. The symbolism of this is that wedding ring sits closer to your heard. It's a fulfillment of love while the engagment ring is merely the promise.
I see women wearing it both ways and I think any arrangment is fine as long as it pleases the woman.

Because they wipe themselves with the left hand and they only eat with the right hand.
Please, no preaching. I went to a Catholic school and I know the Bible just as well as you.
My Mother was Catholic and my Father was Baptist. Some people don't know the Bible as well as you and me. Just trying to tie the ends of the question together.
homegnome: Religious people on here again Are they really SANE???? Do you believe in a man in the sky???
A question was asked. Freedom of Speech is allowed in the Western World to answer a question, whether Religious or not. The Western World has Freedom of Religion.

So??If that's what they want to believe, what's it to you? Do you believe in freedom of speech and freedom of Religion? I doubt it. You probably think yourself Ô so intelligent because you don't believe in a being higher than yourself. I think the contrary is applicable as far as you're concerned.
