I think words are extremely powerful, they can portray, love, hatred, lonliness, fear, desperation, etc. without ever having to guess what is meant. It all depends on how they are used and by whom.

Sure, just look at the presidential debates and how they manipulate their sentences to suit the idea of the day and sway the electorate votes.
Look at the scammers and the words they chose.
Look how women are able to chose words specifically to get straight through a man's defenses.
Huge effects.
