I have not followed all of the news concerning Syria and the attacks the government is making on it's people, but I do hear the cries of the people of Syria.
I do not understand as I watch the news clips of the government of Syria firing on their people. I do not understand why the countries of the world do not interviene.
I thought that this would raise a defense for the Syrian people of "Crimes against humanity". Why are the countries of the world standing by and doing NOTHING to help these people?
What are they waiting for?
How can the U.S. go into a war for over 10 years without United Nations consent to do so, because THEY believe there are weapons of mass destruction which were never found?
Yet, no one wants to get envolved when people are getting slaughtered by their own government?
What if this were happening to you in Your country?
Would you want someone to step in and help you?
This is just beyond me, how there is no compassion for the Syrian people who are being attacked by their government. I feel that if we allow this, then we deserve it to happen to even us.
How do YOU feel about what is going on in Syria? Would you want it to happen in your country? Can you put yourself in their shoes?

Galactic_bodhi: Follow the money. Who will profit if we intervene? That is the only concern of those who decide where and when we intervene in the fighting and the dying.
Did we intervene in Rwanda? No. There was no profit margin, even though approximately 800,000 people died in the genocide.
Is there oil or other goodies to exploit? I dunno. Not really up on the industries of Syria. We have our eyes on Iran right now. For obvious reasons. There's money to be made there.
Exactly... All of what you have stated here, were thoughts I had before I made this thread.

Never a good Idea to get in the middle of a Civil-War!
You stirred the pot with your thread. Now all those,"""the know all""" will come up,with the UNSC resolutions on Iraq,Lybia,Afghanistan, etc. Why waste money in Syria if there is no gains???As about the Syrian people,"expendable",as there is no gains.- No gains,no involvement. Simple really.

So sad.

Dear healthy, Military involvement is in direct responce to the amount of oil ( or other riches ) a country posesses . It really is a simple equasion , more oil = more involvment . See how that works .

Leerlauf! Your usual Hatemongering, and you just won't learn!
this president don't care about the people of syria and to the state of isael. he would rather buddy up to jerks like assad and that president in iran while letting people die and telling israel not to attack iran.
the stuff in n. ireland pales compared to what is happinening in syria. the government is committing war crimes that they should be caught and dealt with.
Just listened to a u-tube vid of the two French reporters that were wounded with the reporter that was killed. Both asked for France to intervene and come to their rescue. They have pretty serious wounds that the Syrian freedom fighter don't have medical facilities for. Also they say that Assad has asked his military to kill any foreign journalist caught in the country.
This is were personal responsibility comes into play. They choose to go into a civil war zone and take the risk that they did. Ask Ernst Hemingway that fought and was wounded in the Spanish civil war of the 30s. Just because you are a foreigner coming to do 'the right' thing, a bullet does not know that.
Ask the Flying Tigers that went to China to take on the Japanese Air Force in the late 30s. Not all of them came home.
So is your choice to get mixed up in something like this or not. Just know that the rules that Assad's people are playing by aren't fair and nice. That once there, there is little your country can do for you if wounded or caught. Because it is very unlikely the French are going downtown Homs to bring these French two female reporters out.
Then again....President Obama might loan Sarkozy.....SEAL Team 6 for a mission. Because if you are going into downtown Homs, that is the way to go. French have special forces units as well. I hope they use them in this case. To get the women out.

Lots of good comments here and I understand where each of you are comming from.
I am not a warmonger at all, I wish for Peace to us ALL. I believe in bringing harm to no one. I just perceive that nations have gone to war for much less, in my opinion. I feel that crimes against humanity should be at the top of the list of reasons to go to war.
I saw on the news this morning, a reporter stating that Syria was a Clandestine place that holds many secrets of Nations of the world, and that was why nations were not getting envolved.
Tonight's news stated that these were indeed, Crimes against Humanity and I believe Obama has finally decided that something should be done about it and Hillary Clinton has something on her agenda concerning Syria.
Perhaps the people are not fighting fairly as ttom stated. I have always heard that all is fair in love and war. Besides, would you look to play fair if it were happening to you? You would do what ever you could to fight your enemy and stay alive. I would hardly say the Syrian government is playing fair, attacking Homs with tanks and heavy artilary, killing people at funerals and women and children.
If this happened in your country, resistance groups would form to fight back. I would hope that someone would come to your aid to overthrow your government and make your country a peacable place.
In many wars, journalist were allowed to operate without harm. Why would they not want news coverage? So they can say it never happened, that the people are lying???
I suppose we will see what happens in the days to come. See if anyone has the heart to rescue the people of Syria without the purpose of financial gain. Isn't the value of human lives enough, to save them from Tyranny?

My goodness HL... you sure do have stars in your eyes.
Wiki: "Despite the mitigation of the severe drought that plagued the region in the late 1990s and the recovery of energy export revenues, Syria's economy faces serious challenges. With almost 60% of its population under the age of 20 (2006), unemployment higher than the current 9% is a real possibility unless sustained and strong economic growth takes off. Oil production has levelled off, but recent agreements allowing increased foreign investment in the petroleum sector may boost production in two to three years."
It's more of the young pushing for some options in the lives, unfortunately who gains control after the devastation is often the military after the leader is toppled... so same old same old. The money and power fundamentally stays in the same hands and they'll deal with whom they please... just like here.
