Sad to hear the news of the death of Jim Stynes one of the first Irish Gaelic players to venture over to Australia for Aussie rules! He was a true fighter.

Ah really? I read an article about him a few weeks ago where he said that his outlook had improved from what it had been. RIP.

Yeah sad news indeed.
I used to play against him when he played with Ballyboden before he abdicated laugh

He had some career in Australian rules but more than that he went on to become chairman of Melbourne FC and he was and is extremely well thought of over there for what he has given back to the sport.

Here's a decent article

the program a few years ago what he was doing every day was brilliant it showed how much of a fighter he was! he thought he had won the battle but he must have had a bad turn, unfortunately it's hard to get rid of the Cancer!

Yeah he has been on a roller coaster all right for the last few years. Very sad.

P.S. Be careful of Snowy. He may be jealous cause he normally handles the death notices around these parts laugh

Jim Stynes has been a much loved, admired and respected part of Aussie Rules since 1987 and will be sorely missed as much for what he achieved off the field.

He won the Brownlow Medal 4 times which is the highest honour for any player, and amongst other honours was awarded Australian of the Year 2011. A huge achievement for anyone. He has left a lasting legacy and has influenced the lives of many with his Reach Foundation a youth charity.

His family have accepted the offer of a State Funeral to be held in St Pauls Cathedral and thousands are expected to attend.

Thank you for lending us this beautiful man for so many years. If only we could have more like him the world would truly be a better place. So sad for his young family.
