I live here in the sunny med, I encounter many beautiful girls and woman on a regular basis, from all over the globe not just local females,
I naturally (now) give them a wee pucker to each cheek in quick succession, Normally left to right, getting it right is an art form or you just do the air cheek thing, I hate that one, fortunately I rarely experience that one much, and the friendlily you are the more intimate it gets, so after a while you can get to know who really likes you and who is just saying "Hola".
My thread is what's yours ?
What's your opinion on anything other than a handshake.

Same here, mainly a cheek to cheek thing, both sides, not even the kiss.
A kiss and a hug is normal between friends here in Bulgaria, but we don't just go around kissing and hugging anybody cause we see them every day ( like people at the bus stop, neighbours and their dogs, shopkeepers) Well Rockrabbit if that's the way in Malta enjoy it... Two cheeks-two kisses
I don't like to be kissed when I meet someone. My hairdresser used to kiss me on the check....and she looked for me to kiss her back on the cheek... after she did my hair. I had to put a stop to that. She wasn't happy about that so now someone else does my hair.
I've noticed that when a man greets a professional or political woman he kisses her on the cheek. When a man greets a professional or political man he shakes hands and gives a pat on the back.
If a handshake is a sign of respect why doesn't the woman deserve a handshake....forget the pat on the back.

cheek to cheek, a kiss is too familiar unless you really know them well, or if she is really pretty and she lets you, a nice kiss on the lips, but if she is not that pretty then kiss her mouth (no tongue) instead lol

It's a funny thing this kissing on the cheeks and i know what you mean by it being a bit awkward sometimes
I must admit I enjoy it and I think I'm pretty darn good at knowing when and where, I do this little thing with woman I meet, I lean to them as to kiss but bring my hand up to shake any way, it's just about perfect and gives the ladies the choice although sometimes I end up kissing them on the hand
For the record....seeing as Malta was mentioned at some point above....(even if by mistake).....but yes....it is the norm here to say hello to ladies by kissing them on the cheeks....
