MADDOG69: @Maxmate: I lectured before to you about the limitations of the British Royal family in the workings of the UK itself and how insignificant they really are. I don't want to have to waste my little fingers doing it again. lol

I understood your lecture Sir! professor

However as per the topic, I just pointed out the immoral possessoin of other countries' assets and the false/unjustified pride in it. More than a billion people of india want that diamond back that is blatantly posing in the ROYAL CROWN mocking them all.

That's all from me. cheers

With due respect to you the topic has nothing to do with diamonds, has to do with "Lord Elgin marbles"

maxmate1: And they will keep avoiding the answer to the question that why the British Royals are clinging onto the stolen diamond and not returning back when being asked for it repeatedly?

Lord Elgin secure papers from the Ottomans, to take some "marbles" lying inside and around the Acropolis, not to rip the "metopes" of Parthenon.
MADDOG69: Chris.

I watched a program on this before about how that guy (forget his name) had the sculptures removed from the face of the acropolis after agreeing with the Ottoman rulers at the time. While I have some sympathy with the plight of Athens over this, there can be no denying that they were actually safer inside the sterile conditions within a British Museum than left to suffer the fate of some of the monuments that were left there.

IF it's any consolation, the guy (forget his name) that orchestrated the removal of these things, was driven to ruin over his obsession with them things.

Criss....I shared the pain of other countries, along with Greece, whose artifacts have been stolen and are not being given back. Even if happened in the past, which they tell them to forget along with their assets. Focus on the present, which is that British have it, and so it is theirs.

What a logic.

Anyways, I support the return of artifacts to Greece, that belong to Greece.

Have a nice day!

chris27292729: I agree with you about Greek artifacts held in other museums, also plundered by Greeks as well, also by non Greeks, who knew where to look. Now in the British Museum there is a section, with the so called "Elgin marbles",which been stored for decades, before found in a very sorry state of afairs, and then clean them and stored them, and then, took their place in the British Museum. The Elgin Marbles are part of the Acropolis, and are housed in the British Museum, thats why one country mentioned UK.- The security in the brand New Acropolis Museum, only 3 years old, guarantee repatriation,(it seems you agree been repatriated) in the country which made them,as well the country who owns them.
Chris, personally I don't care if they go back to Greece, what I do care about is that they are safely held so they can be viewed by all nations as they are World History aswell as Greek and now British History. Who ever holds it has a duty of care, as for all Historic Artifacts.

the so called elgin marbles were bought for 260.000 pounds! you do the maths as to how much that is in todays money. so forget theft, look in various greek museums and you can see the objects turning back into sand. stay by the parthenon long enough and you will be shown things to buy made from the fallen marbles. No thank goodness they are where they are. And anyway if they went back they would only be in a museum, so whats the differnce?

almera03: Nope not OTT at all, not if you know his prior history of posting and using any excuse to attack UK, US and other Western Countries.

Nor the way he twists others words to suit his agenda and hijacks threads to do so.

I doubt there is a single Country that hasn't a murky past, but people should see the word "past". To use that to constantly attack that Country in the present is wrong.

This thread is about Greek Artifacts, not Indian.

Did someone say "INDIAN" grin

Safely they can be held and viewed in the new Acropolis Museum, where their World History was created by the Greeks.- You cannot create British History when somebody else is the creator.handshake

Ask the British Museum to estimate their income for housing the Elgin marbles. For housing them so long far exceeds the 260.000 pounds Elgin paid for them.

Sorry Chris for jumping back in.

Someone has just mentioned to me that the British Museum purchased the Marbles, this is true, however they purchased then from Elgin and not from Greece. This was done because of the contreversy surrounding the taking of them in the first place. However, it is also understood Elgins reason for taking them was because he saw that other marbles had been destroyed for the lime inside. Therefor he thought the best way to keep them safe was to remove them. He did, its noted, make an agreement with officials prior to taking them.

Something to note, if returning them would cause them damage then I feel the safest place for them is where they lay.

Oh Almera there is really no need to use my real name but I think I am smart enough to know why you would do that ...yet is was really uncalled for "On this thread" ...anyways I will not get into the thread you are speaking about ... As it has nothing to do with this one .... And that was my point ... "it has nothing to do with this one" .. If you are still upset about the recent events I suggest you open a thread about it so you can release your frustrations
