Hi AB - I think the no money at the cash point was a "justification" sop thrown out in the days when the government started to realise the whole extent of the Anglo debt and banking crisis to placate the Irish tax payer and get them on side.
Would it have really happened? No one can extrapolate with any degree of accuracy but I don't think it would have ended up in the no milk for babies scenarios that we were led to believe.

As for public revolts - are there enough revolting people around as it is?

I have no idea what form a revolt might take but I did say that FF would not be out of government for as long as people think - a bloody sad revolt but one that's not 5 years away I fear.

Little to impart really but it's still a free country apparently - so I can.

Blank if everyone cashed in their chips with the bank (with drew their monies) there wouldn't be enough available cash to pay out.

A public revolt is whats needed. One march of 10,000 people in mid Nov. isn't going to change a thing. If people marched everyday then Leinster Hse may listen. If there was a general strike they would listen. But for what ever reason people are afraid to take matters into their own hands. Instead they'll let suits make bad calls and blame them for the mess. While bailing out the banks was wrong IMO..Irish people have to take part of the blame themselves for allowing themselves to be hood winked so easy.

Phoenix: Face that was easier to call than the sun rising

Ah, but which sun rising. You didn't say it was tomorrow's sun rising did you? You never said that. That's what I said so don't tell more lies .... blah, blah, blah. laugh

No point in arguing with the likes of that.

As for the topic at hand could I just go on the record as saying I don't believe that we are at the bottom of this recession yet. Or at least it will be another 10 years before there is any sign of recovery. Things are going to get a lot harder and a lot more people are going to go to the wall before it's over and the fat cats swoop in to pick up the bargains. They're boiling us slowly with increased charges/taxes and reduced incomes. I'd say the housing market will end up around 75% down from the peak and we are only about 50% down at the minute.

My advice to people is to buckle in and prepare for another decade of bad budgets. Hang on tight and hope to get past 2022. The false hope, green shoots, and upturns they keep holding out to people are to break their will. People become inured to hard times and turn their collar up to it but if you can keep them hoping and alternately despairing you can break them faster. That's what they are doing. They're pushing the cisis to the limit before we are offered the solution, which of course will be the European Federation with one bank, one government, one currency and one unelected elite telling us what to do. We'll be only too glad to live in their collective as good little obedient serfs when, as a people, we have been broken.
