Based on my own experience with this exact same thing, it's destined to fail sooner or later...hope nobody gets hurt in the crossfire.

It's obvious they love to argue.
I've known people who fight all the time and have been together for over 50 yrs.
I wouldn't stay in that kind of relationship.

I think that's a good question....it becomes a toxic habit and a dysfunctional pattern
I really believe that a couple that is dedicated to saving a once loving relationship can save their partnership with some therapy and training in dialogue IF that training takes place before too much hurtful words are spoken
if it goes on too long, I agree it just signals the beginning of the end...
