montemonte: I’m from a shortline railroad family called the Rahway Valley Railroad. My father kept the engines running and often was the engineer, my father-in-law was the president and after he died my husband had his job. As a little girl I would meet the train when I knew it would be going through town and ask my father for a ride. He’d say, “Okay, get on up here” and I would climb the steps on up into the cabin of the steam engine or the electric diesel. When steam engines were phased out electric diesels were the new things. It was a thrill as a little girl to be in the cabin as he drove the train up the mountain to deliver goods to customers. The railroad went out of business in 1986.
This is #15 my favorite steam engine. Imagine me up in the cabin Another picture of #15 This is #17 the first electric diesel
Wonderful memories, montemonte! The train is part of my school memories too. Thank you for sharing!
That is amazing. Thank you for sharing the video, bodleing!
This is what I found out about it: The elephant was designed by François Delarozière. It was made mostly of wood, and was operated by 22 'manipulateurs' using a mixture of hydraulics and motors. It weighed 50 tons, as much as 7 African elephants. Wow!
Merriweather: For what its worth... I travelled to school on double decker buses, stole the loo paper from school and hung it out the window... and let it fly...when the bus got a right speed along the highway.
Talk about Pricilla of the desert... (Hey, It was all of us that did it... we thought it was cool)
