Going to Alcatraz, so excited to go to prison!! I did watch 'Escape from Alcatraz' recently just in case I miss the ferry!!
I was there 2009, love the place. A friend of mine set off for San Fran this morning on his way to The Burning Man Festival, wish I was going with him.

I love SF, it's only about 3 hours from me, but I don't get there too often. Here is one of my favorite things to photograph!! Palace of Fine Arts!

love san francisco. but didn't make it to alcatraz as i was only there for two days and they were fully booked...couldn't get in as i hadn't made a reservation. still had a great time and came home with toy handcuffs...
crazyblondeone: This is a Dukw (WWII amphibious truck) also know as a "Duck", another San Francisco treat! We grew up with one sitting in our front yard, mind you we lived in the country and had 40 acres and many WWII vehicles, one like this was our playhouse.

Times have really changed. Once people were waiting to get out and now they wait to get in.

Yes that happened to my daughter, so she ordered the tickets online this time, she lives in Washington. So this will be fun. Especially after watching the movie on it. It kind of helps. I just learned to put pictures on here today. So I may share if they come out okay.
It was TJ! I think because we did have so much of WWII stuff and imaginations I am intrigued by WWII and watch a lot of movies on it. Had a great time with our old relics until the time we found the dynamite, that wasn't so good...the bomb squad came out to remove it. That could have been ugly!! Great stories though!

Part of my honeymoon (1962) was to see Alcatraz. We took the tour boat but the prison didn't close until March 1963 so there was no way we could get in there. I remember looking across from the boat and thinking what kind of scary people were in there.
There have been attempts to escape but none were successful mostly due to the cold water and big bad fish
There's an interesting slideshow in this link. Take look ...
Happygolucky4u: Not for votingMud bogging is very interesting. Been looking at some old pics and thought I would post this one it is a form of transport.
Oh my brother would sell his bride for that truck in the top pic!

Hi CB.....I watched a documentary on PBS tv about WWII. It was so good that I bought the series of videos for my son-in-law who just started watching them this weekend. He loves it and I loved it too because they interviewed some of the pilots plus so much other interesting information.
This is where you can buy it from. It's called THE WAR and was produced by Ken Burns. If I remember correctly it's 4 or 5 DVD's. Hope you enjoy it.

Speaking of Alcatraz, this photo (not for voting), is the inside of the historical Toronto Don Jail which has been vacant for years and will soon become an administrative building for the hospital I work in.

Hi Trigs .... but it will always have the air of being a jail even when the ladies are walking around in their 6" stilletoes.
That's just a jail? Most jails are one floor and small.

Oh I bet that was a disappointment, but you did get to see the prison up close from the tour boat? That would be cool, since the prisoners were still there!
I sure hope its not cloudy, foggy or raining that day. I am bringing several cameras and my camcorder! I am so excited!
