scriobhneoir: What do RTE call it? What do all the major newspapers call it? It's quite a simple issue really. We have our own domestic sport called football, so to differentiate, we have to call the other sport Soccer. Nothing actually makes my blood boil more than a dub who claims to be a GAA head referring to football as 'Gaelic'. It's football! I don't mind small minded 'soccer over all' people calling it football in one way because they are basing their incorrect terminology on their pathological hatred of all things GAA, but when I hear people involved in the GAA saying it.

This is a major pet peeve of mine. You won't change my mind on it.

I'm not trying to change your mind. Just inform you that soccer isn't the official name of football in this country as you stated. And the same national newspapers you use to back up your case call what you call football, Gaelic Football...which apparently is a pet peeve of yours. So you should really make up your mind if the papers who what they are on about on not.laugh

Maybe in your area most people call it soccer but not in Dublin. In Dublin it's football and Gaelic Football. Always was.
