Sunny143: I would like to learn a good foreign language for my professional purpose...I want to work in European countries in future...
Well, one way to think about it, is by taking into consideration how many countries use the same language. German for instance, are used in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, etc. French are used in France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, etc. On the other hand, languages like e.g. in Europe, Portuguese is used only in Portugal (as far as I know), which limits your choice of countries to visit...

As a teacher of English I would have to say none! However, I do speak Spanish fluently, and French and German, albeit quite poorly. If asked to recommend another language I would say German for Europeans seeking work.

Sunny143: thanks all..for your reply!I have plans to work in Denmark...so ppl told me..french or german would be helpful..
I got married in southern part of Denmark, most people there understand German and English well. I guess there are some words in Danish which are similar to German, so maybe it's easier to learn German first if you are serious in seeking job in Denmark. Best is to learn Danish once you are there. Good luck!
