We are not fighting against Iraq. Iraq has a democratically elected government. Which we are supporting and defending. Iraq is an ally.

I do think that the Bush legacy will be one that many people will sit back and wonder, how did he accomplish so much, we thought he was just a dumb hick. He has been underestimated so many times.
I believe Iraq can become the shining example of democracy in the arab world.

America finally struck back against terrorism. After getting slapped around for decades, and losing countless men, women in the form of terrorist attacks.

During the Carter administration the Iranians took our embassy personel hostage for over 400 days.

1983, Sixty three people, including the CIA's Middle East Director, are killed and 120 injured in a 400 lb suicide truck bomb attack on the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. The driver is killed. Responsibility is claimed by Islamic Jihad.

In the late 20th century the United States suffered several acts of terrorist violence The 1990s witnessed some of the deadliest attacks on American soil, including the bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City in 1993

In addition, there were several major terrorist attacks on U.S. government targets overseas, including military bases in Saudi Arabia (1996) and the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania (1998). In 2000 an explosion triggered by suicide bombers caused the deaths of 17 sailors aboard a U.S. naval ship, the USS Cole, in the Yemeni port of Aden.

The deadliest terrorist strikes to date were the September 11 attacks (2001), in which suicide terrorists associated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes, crashing two of them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City and the third into the Pentagon building near Washington, D.C.; the fourth plane crashed near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The crashes destroyed much of the World Trade Center complex and a large portion of one side of the Pentagon and killed more than 3,000 people.

Terrorism appears to be an enduring feature of political life. Even prior to the September 11 attacks, there was widespread concern that terrorists might escalate their destructive power to vastly greater proportions by using weapons of mass destruction—including nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons—as was done by the Japanese doomsday cult AUM Shinrikyo, which released nerve gas into a Tokyo subway in 1995. Some of Saddams most effective weapons were chemical/biological.

These fears were intensified after September 11, when a number of letters contaminated with anthrax were delivered to political leaders and journalists in the United States, leading to several deaths. U.S. President George W. Bush made a broad war against terrorism the centrepiece of U.S. foreign policy at the beginning of the 21st century.

One man, a real man, decided that it was enough. He stood up and made a tough decision to fight back. He told us all that it wouldn`t be easy. That the enemy would try to break our resolve. He told of a war that could last many years. He never said we would be in and out in a flash.

Do some of those nations hate america? Sure they do. Has the actions of the USA caused them to hate us more? I don`t think that someone can hate you more than when they want to kill you. They have wanted to kill and have been killing Americans for a long time.

I hope that those who disagree with my views can respectfully disagree without the insults that were thrown around yesterday.

So, you dont think that those things that the US has endured were self-inflicted?

If the US had not dabbled in the politics of other countries unsuccessfully, then the US would not be seen as the bully of the world.

In the days of the British Empire, we got away with murder - litterally - due to the lack of communication that there is around at the moment.
So, I am not so blind to the idea that the bully has always been the US, but what I am saying, is that you need to have a balanced view that the US has caused its own troubles.

People get hacked off when you get the annoying wasp buzzing around your head.
Get out of the wasp nest and it wont happen.

So, stop whining about the US getting attacked when you attack someone first.

You cannot expect anyone to be happy that their natural resource is being comandeered by a despot so many miles away.

The Chinese kicked our butts when the Brits took liberties over the opium trade, and you will get your butts kicked eventually as well. It might not be for a hundred years, but it will happen.
No tyrannical dictatorship has ever lasted.

Im not talking about the current conflict, as I have some very extreme views on the current middle east. Im talking about the fact that "If one refuses to acknowledge history, then one is doomed to repeat it"

The US has the biggest toys and at the moment has the largest cojones. But there will come a time when you wont.
It may take 100 years, it may take 200 years, but the time will come.

I think that the US should make better use of the power that it undoubtably has, and work with, and not against less powerful neighbours.

And I was right this is what we had to wake up to:

At least 30 people have been killed in shootings and car bomb attacks in Baghdad, Iraqi officials have said.
In northern Baghdad, at least 15 people died and several were injured when gunmen attacked a bus carrying civilian employees of a Shia religious group.

Shortly afterwards, at least 15 people were killed and some 25 wounded in three car bomb blasts near a petrol station in a south-western district.

Iraq has seen daily sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni communities.

A US soldier was killed and five injured when gunmen attacked a military convoy in the Iraqi capital on Monday, the US military said.

But no matter how bad this guy is, I will STILL thank God every day at least it isnt President Kerry.

Comming from someone in his state who cant stand him....

You want to win? How about giving us someone who's best defense for being "the most liberal senator" ISNT "those are only the votes he participated in". Seriously... I want to know what WE HERE IN MA pay the MORON TO DO!!!! very mad

Nothing wrong with having a liberal voting record. I am a liberal and I am proud of it. Kerry would have been a wonderful President. The problem with simpletons is that they can't understand that Kerry can see the nuances in various issues. Things aren't always black and white. I'd rather back someone who, once having studied an issue, is willing to change his mind rather than someone who's mind can't be changed. Bush is convinced that we're winning the war and it was a good idea.

Today there was a telling exchange in Senate during Robert Gates' confirmation hearing between the venerable old git from WVA, Robert Byrd and the nominee:

Byrd (in a faint rustle of a voice, the man's 90 if he's a day): Do you think we're winning the war in Iraq?

Gates (in a cross between a Kansas accent and something further south): No sir we're not.

Byrd: Do you think that 9/11 was planned and orchestrated by Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden?

Gates: Osama Bin Laden

Byrd: In the past 5 years who's been a bigger threat to the United States: Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden?

Gates: Osama Bin Laden

.....did you just miss his defense was my issue here? NOT the liberal voting record (although I dont like that much iether), but the FACT THAT HE DIDNT VOTE AT ALL MORE OFTEN THEN NOT?!?!?

Seriously, as a Senator, VOTING on these things is in his JOB DESCRIPTION. He, therefore, WASNT DOING HIS JOB! And he wanted the people to PROMOTE him to the highest office?

Now to be fair before I pose my question, yes, I DID go off topic, but my topic was connected as who the alternative was to Bush....

What I want to ask you is... what the HELL does Gates or Byrd have to do with your argument you just made on behalf of Kerry?

I ask because you put it in there like it means something in it...
