Psychopathes excell in our modern world. They care for no one but themselves and thrive well in our annonymous societies. Tribes can pinpoint psychopathes in their midst quite well, every day interactions in a small setting will reveal them under watchful eyes, but we live a life style where psychopathes can remain unseen and disguised and only their actions will become visible.
The above is not just an act of greed alone, it needs a psychopathic mindset in my view to take from the starving and desperate. It needs a complete lack of empathy/disregard for the suffering of others, which is one of the most prominent traits of a psychopath.

Sadly I dont find this shocking at all, there are greedy people who will take advantage all over the world. Disasters bring out the best and worst in people.
tinyfangs: Yes, I can easily see a connection there, does not surprise me at all We have to agree to disagree, on the 'just greed' part. As for that psychopathy is a bit more than lacking empathy, that is indeed correct - it is the inability for empathy, due to what appears to be going on or not going on in their frontal lobes. Many psychopathes however are very smart, very charming and not phsyically violent in the obvious 'hit em' ways. Have you delved into the research of psychopathy?
I would be very suspect as to a lot of research into the aspects of mental illnes, there seems to be so many types of disorders but what I do know and I am repeating my self the study of alcohloism is a very very tabooo subject in society. In the study of serial killers most but not all were alcoholics and acted out their deed under the influence but it was never mentioned in reports and never will be.I renember reading a study by a great writer on psychologists and why they study mental illness etc and accordingly so the reason or part reason they did so was they had a mental disorder themselves maybee this explains why they write studies on themselves and of course to delve into their studies and find the truth or if they are lying you only have to read their transcripts because an honest autobiographist will see their lives as a series of failures and an un honest one well you know the rest.

I think the thing is that I am just here for a few laughs and try not to be serious when on this site, so I reckon Tiny thinks I am a silly woman/female type....I have good strong opinions and can debate well but here I don't bother doing that as it is not worth the effort

it is plain old simple greed that describes people in that "news paper" article.
yes psychopaths lack empathy, but not just that....they also portray antisocial tendencies which are very often violent too. the term psychopath is a little bit more than just lacking empathy!
