It's not clear yet how far Putin will go. Just been watching Mr Yanukovych speak live though. Here's an up to date extract.

13:58: "I never gave orders for the police to shoot," Mr Yanukovych says. But police have the right to self-defence, he adds.

13:57: Just a reminder if you are joining us, that Viktor Yanukovych, the deposed president of Ukraine, is giving his first news conference since fleeing to Russia. Speaking in Russian in Rostov-on-Don, he said gangsters had seized power in Kiev and that he wanted to see his country remain united, amid fears of separatism in the Crimea region.

13:52: Mr Yanukovych tells journalists: "I don't think there is a single person in this hall who would derive pleasure from what's going on in Kiev."

13:51: Controversial Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky greets pro-Russian activists prior to a speech on the main square of Sevastopol.

13:51: Mr Yanukovych defends the actions of Berkut police commandos, saying they were under attack. The Berkut unit has been disbanded by the new authorities in Kiev as investigations begin into the mass shooting of protesters.

13:49: Mr Yanukovych strongly criticises Western governments, accusing them of aggravating the crisis. In his opening remarks, he said: "The disturbances and victims are the consequences of the political crisis, the result of the irresponsible policies of the West, which encouraged the Maidan [radical opposition movement]."
13:44: Mr Yanukovych says he has not met Russian President Vladimir Putin yet but did speak to him by phone.

13:43: Asked by a journalist, Mr Yanukovych says he considers the presidential election set for 25 May in Ukraine to be illegal and he will not take part.

13:38: Mr Yanukovych says he is not asking Russia for military help: "I believe that any military actions are unacceptable. I believe Ukraine should remain united and undivided."

13:34: Mr Yanukovych says he is in Rostov because he has a good old friend living nearby who is giving him shelter.

13:33: "I will return to Ukraine as soon as the safety of myself and my family can be guaranteed," Mr Yanukovych says.

Maybe just showing might. That part of Ukraine wants to stay under Russian rule.
Bit like Ireland I think it will end as.
But sad that the ordinary people will suffer yet again.

No soldiers coming out long before this explosion. I as yet keep fingers crossed the Putin is just showing his might and will not go into overdrive because of some world leaders undiplomatic languae.

thumbs up If Scotland now have vote then they should too without interference from the rest of us.
How would we feel if say Germany or Ireland came and said to Scotland we will move in now until you get what you want.
Seems to me democracy comes in many forms to suit situation. Double standards.

there are plenty more Ethnic Russians in Finland and the Baltics Putin could liberate Anschluss-Style-like!
1938 all over again!
Maybe he can even find a Russian Sudetenland!
Maybe somewhere in western China!
The possibilities are limitless for an enterprising Character like Vladimir the First!devil
