sophiasummer: Thank you for your comments, I thought it was so hard for any body to go to a hospital in USA, what I see on TV you get turned away. Unless you have insurance.
As far as I know, or that I've known about, private practice doctors can refuse due to not having insurance, but by law, a hospital emergency room must accept any patient.

And thank you Jean Kimberly too, What a lot of some people see here in New Zealand is that the service for hospitals in USA is so very good, yet, as here being an emergency they take that patient in. But on going care is obviously expensive?
I was shocked last time I went to the Emergency when I tried to pass my turn for a guy that had an accident at work.( he lost a finger).I was just getting a test. Sadly if he was brought in by ambulance he would have been treated right away.

now with the affordable health care act or as some like to call it Obama care (I love Obama care) most folks will have insurance and not get turned away.
there are public hospitals and clinics in most every community -
I have found now when I go in for tests and general checkups the service is even faster and the technology is just incredible - if I don't live past ninety is will be my own darn fault - cause modern medicine and treatment is just awesome
kidatheart: I could give you countless stories of first hand experiences, but to sum it all up quickly. A lot of people, from government on down to cleaning staff, should be lined up and shot for the way things are currently.
I don't necessarily mean kill them, but let them go through the system with a serious injury, and see if they like it from a patient's point of view.
hiya kid
i respectfully have to disagree with you on this one. i've had some pretty serious surgeries and some of it was emergency over the last few years,...and i've had immediate, great care with very kind, professional doctors, nurses, support staff, and follow up services. i won't include the cleaning service as since they privatized it...it's dreadful at some of the hospitals in vancouver.
i will add though, that i also know folks with stories not so favorable of our healthcare system.
as for lining up folks..can we pick on insurance agencies instead..?...

A bee stung can be mortal so for people living far away from health care, they better take prevention and keep the right medicine for it and other risks. A few months back a very well know person here died of a bee stung because he thought it was nothing and later he had to be taken to the hospital and there they could not save him.
Our public health care is free but it is crowded and it is not good for regular diseases while for life threatening conditions it can be very good and expedite (perhaps because they can be sued ).
Private health care is expensive.
It is great that you are fine Sophia.
The right spelling of those long medicine-words is on the box you got
sophiasummer: Living up here in the Far North Of New Zealand, I had to go to e Kaitaia Hospital.
On Saturday I was stung by a wasp. I am not allergic to them so immediately put vinegar on the sting, overnight, it swelled up and of course itchy. No problems, that's what happens. Having my young 6yr old grandchild with me for the weekend I thought on the Sunday to ring the hospital and make sure I was doing all that was right. They said you can come in for an antihistimine shot.(I didn't)(Probably spelt wrong)
On the Monday at work, my wrist was so swelled up it actually started to worry me.(AND I'm a tough cookie)
Never have gone to the hospital here before..... here's my scenario Arrived at hospital 11.30am Guided within 5mins to the day doctors Within 15mins was seen by the doctor Paid $25.00 and $5.00 for my prescription for allergy tablets How cool is that.
All better
Is that how it what happens where you live?
No fees(bar a pittance for prescription), no parasitical insurers(directly funded through taxes that are much, MUCH cheaper than the pen-pushing scum route)and the standard of care is universally good... with a few exceptions where the hospitals are buckling under the weight of a gazillion third-worlders(such as parts of London where I used to live).

Hi Lifes a dream, you are so right there was lady over here that went to check her fences on her farm and accidently knocked a wasp nest she was stung over 100 times she had her cellphone on her, no idea while rolling frantically down a hill towards her river that she managed to ring telecom and be told "hmmm your address is not on the map" it took 1/2 for the ambulance and helicopter to reach her. Thank God she was not allergic.

Ah yes, the English health system. It is one of the best in the world.

Never known anyone to be seen that fast in hospital here. At least a couple of hours wait no matter whats wrong with you.
