Living up here in the Far North Of New Zealand, I had to go to e Kaitaia Hospital.

On Saturday I was stung by a wasp. I am not allergic to them so immediately put vinegar on the sting, overnight, it swelled up and of course itchy. No problems, that's what happens.
Having my young 6yr old grandchild with me for the weekend I thought on the Sunday to ring the hospital and make sure I was doing all that was right.
They said you can come in for an antihistimine shot.(I didn't)(Probably spelt wrong)

On the Monday at work, my wrist was so swelled up it actually started to worry me.(AND I'm a tough cookie)

Never have gone to the hospital here before..... here's my scenario
Arrived at hospital 11.30am
Guided within 5mins to the day doctors
Within 15mins was seen by the doctor
Paid $25.00 and $5.00 for my prescription for allergy tablets
How cool is that.

All better

cool

Is that how it what happens where you live?

Hi Soph wave

It's one of the few things I agree with Shonkey on: a flag change would be all right with me.

What, no skull and cross bones? laugh

Hmmm, our health care system in Canada....mumbling

I could give you countless stories of first hand experiences, but to sum it all up quickly. A lot of people, from government on down to cleaning staff, should be lined up and shot for the way things are currently.

I don't necessarily mean kill them, but let them go through the system with a serious injury, and see if they like it from a patient's point of view.

The pirate look would be sure to scare a few tourists off, I'd say.

Sophie, I imagine went to a hospital for private treatment as she had to pay(I can only assume).

Sadly, our public health system is not the grandest either. I know of a few horror stories I can recount, namely my father(since deceased) and my daughter(who is currently in and out of hospital).

Our largest and busiest public hospital is Middlemore, but is better known as M"u"ddlemore.

How funny! In 1979 I had my son there and was asked if I wanted to stay for 10 days. Yup!

laugh Some things never change. They don't call us patients for nothing. Wait time varies from fifteen to forty-five minutes.

Thank you for your comments, I thought it was so hard for any body to go to a hospital in USA, what I see on TV you get turned away. Unless you have insurance.

an interesting experience -

So I traveled to Canada to visit my sister this past December - the night my flight got in - my sister was in the hospital emergency room with what they thought was the H1N1 flu virus (turned out to be not to be)

So she is in the ER in a temporary bed for over 2 days - did not get checked into the hospital intensive unit until 2 days later - Doctors saw her right away but there were folks coming in and out with major (trauma like knife wounds, car accidents, drug overdoses, accidents) - did not actually get tests to rule out that flu until days later - they just treated her for the symptoms ?
