Obstinance_Works: The house I used to live in would be itself special, a 13th century Welsh Longhouse. All the doorways only came up to about 5 foot 6.
I'd be surprised if my post-1960s toy town house made by the Lego generation is still standing 100 years from now.
So right, some of the new stuff was not built with the same quality and care. And some of the very old buildings must be handled with care and preserved because of the age.
In Miami everything and I mean most everything was not built until after 1930 and then it really grew after 1960 - so my vision of old is not a European vision of old.
I have a bronze sculpture I got for my 50th birthday which is my pride and joy.
I am not a particular fan of glass ornaments (it has to be exceptional) but I have two very expensive pieces of Cypriot glass that I just adore.
I have a 'gallery' of simply-framed black and white photographs of 1940s Paris..... divine!
I also have an enlarged framed photograph of my father and I (I was about six years old) taken in Canada that my brother surprised me with and, now that I have moved, I have on the wall in my new office.
I have some treasured photographs of my days involved in international offshore powerboat racing and also some of my background in architecture... Both my dream jobs!
One of the most dearest things to me though is the small bean-filled soft 'Mr Men' toy that sits by my desk......

i'm a material girl i guess.. i have been fortunate that i have been gifted with some pretty incredible art by artists over the years.
as well, i really like two large, antique chinese calligraphy brushes with handles carved from stone, and my mom's mom's treadle sewing machine.
more recently i have some things i really love as well... a large metal bell gong, a water fountain with floating meditation bowls, and most adored is a beautiful necklace designed for me...
Things belonging to the family, the more notable ones would be...
A 1957 cherry red Gibson Melody Maker electric guitar (original body design) A 1959 Fender Precission electric bass guitar with original hardshell tweed case. A 1962 cherry red Gibson ES-335 orange label hollow body electric guitar (no Bigsby tailpiece.) A 1979 tobacco sunburst Gibson Les Paul Signature (only 50 were made and signed by Les Paul.) And, a 1700's authentic Stradivarius 3/4 violin.
Music has ran in the family for a few generations.
A 21st birthday present that my mum bought for me. It's a tiger figurine. When I move from one house to the next, it's always the last thing to take and the first thing that goes into my room. It's become a ceremony now
In response to: What do you have? That you love to have around you.
Other than my seven guitars, 3 keyboards, and assorted musical and sound equipment I don't have much of any particular interest...unless you count my cars.

sophiasummer: I have a few pieces, one I love the best is a black and white photo of my great grandmother when she was 9.
Also I have old iron and wooden pieces, old tools, that I put up. Maps of old world sailing too.
What do you have? That you love to have around you.

Special items that I treasure:
Pictures of my childhood and my parents, although not many. Lots of pictures -including class pictures- and slides of my children. School certificates, diplomas, awards and trophies of everyone in my family -although I have discharged some like the ones from sports in agreement with my children-. Some of my children’s clothing and belongings when they were babies and little children. Some of my children's school work in their early years. A sample of my Daughters' art work. Some of my children's legos.
