sophiasummer: I have a few pieces, one I love the best is a black and white photo of my great grandmother when she was 9.
Also I have old iron and wooden pieces, old tools, that I put up. Maps of old world sailing too.
What do you have? That you love to have around you.

I have a wooden box that my grandfather made by hand to ship their things in when he and my grandmother emigrated from England to Canada in the early 1900's. It measures 24x24x38 and is stained a reddish brown and is cedar lined. I would dearly love to know exactly what they brought with them but suspect it had things like some dishes and linens and maybe a few books. It warms my heart to look at it every day and I display it in my living room against a wall and keep extra bedding and towels in it.
id say the most cherished things I have are not in my home but in my shop. my dad was a craftsman and so were a few other people who touched my life and I have their old tools that I still use to this day. its nice using the hand tools that generations before you used as well.

Yes I know what you mean and have some of my grandfather's and my father's tools. While neither was a craftsman they both built well and my father was trained as a mechanical draftsman in his youth. Grandpa was just handy lol. Great memories to hold in your hand.

Hello rider4u That's great, it would have had all their treasures, dishes linens etc, which back then would have been so important to youre grandmother, . How wonderful you have that with you. I would display as well, also to keep and put special things inside.

That's so cool, Craftsmen are so far and few between.I just love old tools, the craftsmanship is beautiful. Like you say using old tools that are crafted so well, they are a seemless gadget.
I have many things in my home I treasure. My home is made for comfort not eye appeal. I do so cherish my wedding rings. Taking them off was so difficult. And I have an opal ring given to me by my husband and a diamond ring given to me by my mother I cherish and wear often. I will never forget the day when my mom gave me my ring. She said she wanted to give me my first diamond where I would understand you can have diamonds without a man. Today I am self supporting. I do not need to be held up just held closely

I have many treasures from my great grandparents and grandparents.. I have their trunks that they stored all their clothing in when they traveled by ship to New York City...before 1900's... I also have my grandmothers gown that she wore when she was Christening. Many pictures from 1900's early ones...I have a Thanksgiving photo of the family then.. Photos of those funny bathing suits that they wore with the bathing cap.. funny.... I have many things... but the one I treasure the most is a picnic table that I use to sit at when I was small.. It is 58 years old and sits in my kitchen.. I use to eat there and color and even play cards with my grandparents... And my children have done the same thing at this table and also my grandchildren... Sophiasummer... I have one of those irons that they would sit on a pot belly stove and heat it up to iron... True Treasures that will be passed to the next generation...

Grandad's Phillips screwdriver. It has to be 70 years old now and you literally cannot buy a better screwdriver. To say I love having it around me would be an overstatement, but it is a trusty memento from a sturdier age. There's been times where I've held it in my hand next to a modern screwdriver made in China, and I've thought to myself: I am looking at the death of a civilisation. It must be how archaeologists feel.

Whomever they were who decided that society shouldn't be about quality but instead be about choices will burn in Hell for all eternity. I pray that there's more justice in the afterlife than there is on this Earth, O Lord, please let there be a Hell.

Talk about antique. My house was built in the 18 hundreds and is rather huge. Recently I had a crack repaired in the living room and found a knife in the wall. You can see its very old and I assume the builders forgot it there whilst building the house. I also have a stamps collection with stamps from all over the world and some of them are very very old.

better it was just a knife in the wall - when traveling to South Carolina, I stayed in a lovely old home which was converted into a bed and breakfast place. When they were renovating the place originally, they found the body (skeleton) of a Civil War Soldier inside the wall.....
