Everybody knows the prepackaged, prewashed lettuce that's for sale everywhere. Anybody who ate it or was served it knows what it looks like. You basically get a stalk with very little lettuce, sometimes there's no lettuce and just a piece of stalk. The packages are sold by weight and stalks contain water and voila, there's the big rip. Not only are you paying for water weight, but the stalks with a bit of lettuce used to be "swine food" (no joke) back in the days. It was the refuse that you threw in a large container and fed to the pigs on the farm. Then someone clever decided to package it and sell it to us... and we eat it and worse, we pay for it.
Same story with Driscoll's strawberries. Only a small outer part is actually edible. I did a little experiment once and 80% of the strawberries was unusable white flesh that had no flavor (pumped full of water). This stuff is also sold by weight.
We need to be more diligent as consumers and demand better quality food, honestly. I've done my share and written to these companies, but they don't care. Only money talks. Anyway, I hope next time you go to the supermarket you'll make good choices.
Cheers
