IGA stands for Independant Grocers Association and way back in the '70s was WA based moving across into SA & Vic by the late 70s. It was made up of smaller independant grocers who combined their buying power to try to become competitive. In NSW, there were a couple of similar groups, MFC being 1 although I forget the other. And a big supplier to the independants was run under the wholesale banner of Davids Holdings.
They were combating the big retailers such as Franklins, Permewans, Coles, Safeways, and Woolworths. In NSW, it was Jewels & Grace Bros competing against these big companies around 1980.
Interestingly, one hardware chain (Mitre 10 I think) was started by a few independant stores buying in bulk to get massive dicounts. The Kingsbury Hardware Store in Sydney bought cement by the semitrailer load and then sold it off in smaller quantities to other members. Oddly enough, Mr Kingsbury died of a lung condition related to ingestion of cement dust.
When ex#1 & I had our store, it was cheaper to by Coke (the cola variety) from one of our confectioners than direct from C-C. Our smallgoods came from a small wholesaler who kept costs well below buying direct from the 'manufacturers.'

Personally I checked with a Doctor and his advice was any damage has already occurred and it is far to dangerous to stop now. Further both my parents also suffered heart attacks as other veterans I've met did soon after quiting smoking.
I am Buddist person, my setting Member was Peter Slipper until he was stabbed in the back by the Liberal Party Peter had the courage to stand in the House on my behalf on a number of occassions, I am now unrepersented by any Member of Parliament.

Rob, have earnt a wage/salary in Australia and duly paid Income Tax since 1969 (worked for a few years before but no tax involved) where that income Tax went towards a number of things. Part of that had gone to my grandmother and great-grandmother recieving an income in recognition for the many years that they worked to benefit Australia as a whole. Oops, did not happen as soon as when they stopped working or their spouse died. Grandma had to do housework (cleaning/laundry) to ensure that my father and aunt could finish their schooling. Great-grandmother was married to a wealthy builder of the time.
