For those that do Celebrate it, what will it be like this year? Or maybe you celebrate it on the Eve of Christmas. There was a time long ago that I remember so many family members and Christmas Eve was a crowded house with my Stepfathers mother and her sisters, my Cousins from that side and a huge dinner with presents and exploring the places we were not supposed to go. And then the Christmas Morning with the huge tree and all the presents there as well. So much going on and a very magical feeling about everything. Later going to my Grandfathers' house where my other cousins would drive down from Albany and again all the great times spent. But now this is not the way at all, I have no child and I have no Family like that. The last few years it has been more quiet each year. It seems almost like I lost my chance about 5 years ago and now I think this Christmas is more of distant memory. But I am happy that I am alive and who knows, maybe there is another chapter that will bring new good memories as well...but enough of that. I started this to ask about you. What is it like for you this year? Any traditions? Anyone that goes out and cuts there tree and decorates the town? What is a traditional family Christmas around the world? Just because I am in the USA I am not directing this towards any particular place...anywhere in the world. And please, this is not a place meant for any conflicts. There are enough of those in the rest of the year. I know that everyone has different ideas. I just spend all my time alone these days and thought maybe some people might share some cool or interesting traditions.
All the Best~

I wish you a happy xmas Dragos1, and I understand your words, mine too was like that many many years ago when i was growing up, but now children grow up have families of their own and maybe just maybe we get to all be together for a family xmas lunch. But here in Australia its usually a hot day, with high temps. so most people have a 'cold' xmas lunch, prawns, crawfish, etc.I myself being from the UK still like to have the traditional xmas lunch of turkey, ham roast potatoes etc.
So no matter how we spend lets all keep that xmas spirit and thank goodness we are still alive, so many loved ones are not.
Merry Xmas to All

Thank You Lindey for the kind words and a reminder that there is a warm weather out there somewhere. lol. You know. I had written this and heard something outside and thought "wait a minute" So I ran out to see if maybe there was snow falling down. But it is just a sloppy big drops of rain. Prawns sure sound tasty. I made a nice garlic dip out of different soft cheeses, white yogurt and fresh cloves of garlic. smashed and minced. Very tart! I have my kitty "Papi" we will watch the rain. LOL.
big Merry Christmas wishes.

Merry Christmas Dragon and all CS'ers. santa waving

We would have our Christmas dinner and the exchanging of the presents on the evening of the 24th.

It will be a bit different tonight as for the first time Christmas dinner will be at my sisters place (next door) and none of the kids will be there - they are with the other parent and will be around tomorrow or late tonight.

Hearing other people talking about being on their own Christmas made me think what will happen if my mum isn't around anymore. I'm working on setting up my own home in case our family circumstances changes - which will happen someday but I hope that this day is far away.

I'm always looking forward to spending time at home with my family and putting up my feet around Christmas. Wishing everyone an enjoyable time to make good memories this year and wishing you all much happiness for 2015. teddybear

I usually get up at 4am and go for my normal 25km run, followed by a 15km swim in the sea.
Next I do 200 press ups (no hands blushing).

Memories of past Christmas celebrations with the family are very nice thoughts.

Since my father was in the Canadian military, it was usually spent with family in different countries, every three years......until he retired and we were back in Canada. Then of course, when I moved to the tropical state in America, it was odd to see all the trappings of Christmas without the snow and cold.

Even today, I'm off to work and the temperature will be in the 80s. In my neighborhood the children will play with all their toys on Christmas day tomorrow and there is nothing more beautiful or music to my ears than hearing the sounds of children laughing.

Any holiday traditions I spent as a child died for me long ago.

I can remember back to when I was little and my parents, older brothers and sisters would get together and share presents etc.

Then when I was married to my late husband and had my son some of the holiday cheer came back to me some. Now to me the holiday season is only just another day to me.

It does seem to work, when we see the spirit of Christmas in our children's eyes or grandchildren, or great grandchildren..... or at the rate we are living longer lives, our great-great grandchildren.... of course we won't remember who they are, or who we are for that matter. laugh

Here's to the old-timers disease, conscious forgetting.

Merry Christmas B,and all the CSer's.

memories...as a child, the house was full of people, aunts, uncles, cousins, immediate family...big tree, presents, lots of goodies to eat that were only out at Christmas time.

and at some point it changed...i think it was when my son was born. it became my turn to cook the bird, make the dinner, etal. my closest friend and i would share making a dinner, and usually 14-18 friends for an orphans dinner. lotsa laughes shared together. some years i volunteer christmas eve day, helping to serve dinner to the homeless downtown.

and now it has changed again...
we live in a small village on the coast, and today my son and his partner will come and stay for a couple days, and BB's son and his wife will join us for dinner. it will be the first time we've all been together.

sooo....BB and i are busy making stuffing, and cooking a turkey...laugh
and looking forward to a fabulous dinner and time with our family.

and yes...i'm drinking coffee and baileys....grin

I understand what you mean. In some ways it would be nice if for me it had no meaning and was just another day. Now it seems to only hold memories of a life and dreams that crumbled ( I even was married on Christmas Day) lol. UNlike some I have a very good memory though I can probably be a bit selective at times. But self preservation seems to carry me through the holidays, "that" and long periods of sleep.
I am glad to see others happy and doing fun things. Dear God help us all in that Jean Kimberly go to Scotland and smack some unsuspecting Scotsman over the noggin' and drag him back to her woman cave. I think it is about time. I did come up with some Catnip for my Kitty "Papi". So know he is a happy cat. ;-}} Merry CHristmas Cincy. ;-}}
